Last week, Metro Community Health Center helped our community in a BIG way!! With five food trucks on board, we served 1,390 free meals to Wilkinsburg residents impacted by the power outages, including deliveries to Douglas Plaza and Wood Towers who were still without power!

A huge thank you to the Metro Community Health Center staff, Pgh Crepes, South Side BBQ Company, Kona Ice of Penn Hills, Foxy Frans, Revival Chili, Mayor Dontae Comans for spreading the word, and the Wilkinsburg Youth Council’s Jade, Dominique, and Berto for their hard work and dedication in making this event a huge success. Your efforts made a real difference in a challenging time!

📣ATTENTION Wilkinsburg Residents 📣

In response to the recent severe storms and ongoing power outages affecting Wilkinsburg residents, Metro Community Health Center is stepping in to support the community by sponsoring a free food truck event on Monday, May 5th at 12:00 PM in the parking lot at 720 Wallace Ave., Wilkinsburg, PA 15221.

Held in Wilkinsburg, the event will feature a variety of local food trucks offering free meals to community members impacted by the outages. Meals will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Metro Community Health Center encourages all those in need to stop by, grab a meal, and connect with others in the community as recovery efforts continue.

About Metro

Metro Community Health Center, formerly known as Metro Family Practice, Inc. (MFP) was established in 1999 and received Federally Qualified Health Center Look Alike (FQHC-LA) status in 2002. Several characteristics make our practice unique, including (1) our commitment to reaching out to underserved members of our community; (2) our philosophy of holistic, patient-centered health care; (3) our reputation for providing culturally sensitive care to various populations; and (4) the fact that our practice was established by a community-driven call answered by physicians in direct response to the declining availability of health care in our service area.

In the mid-1990’s, a decrease in clinical services occurred when Forbes Health System sold Forbes Metro Hospital and relocated its physicians to other parts of the county. Following the close of the hospital, several private practices and the hospital emergency room in the neighborhood also closed their doors. A community needs assessment revealed that these closures created a growing unmet demand for primary care services. A group of physicians with an intensive background in community and preventive medicine answered this call, recognizing that this unmet need would only be magnified as health care services moved out of the area. In order to maintain and increase access to care, this group of physicians formed Metro Family Practice, Inc., a community health center.
