Smith Foundation was created in loving memory of our father Alvin Smith, also known as "Albo", who passed away in February of 2016. Born in the small town of Braddock, Pennsylvania, Al lost his mother when he was just 3 years of age. He was then raised by his father and caring members within the local community. Never allowing circumstance to determine his future, Al became a stellar athlete and
high school football star. He attended Central State University while on a full athletic scholarship. After college, Al proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of the legendary 82nd Airborne Division. He was a proud veteran and happy to share his memories with loved ones. Professionally, Al worked his way through the ranks in Human Resource Management and overcame many barriers. Being an African American in this field during the 60's and 70's would prove just how resilient and determined he was. Al retired as the Senior Vice President of one of the largest healthcare organizations within the U.S. He expressed his love of family through kind acts and has touched many lives. Our goal is to ensure that his legacy of hard work, determination, and giving back will live on. We will share our father's story and give back to the community in which helped raise him.
