When they place that new little human on your chest there’s nothing like it. Showing your partner this person you have stitched together from scratch, allowing them to soak in their newness too- it takes your breath away. But for so many it’s a blur of exhaustion from long labors or inductions or being up all night. Your cortisol is high, oxytocin is pumping, and part of your biology to cope with such an intense moment can create difficulty with recall. Birth photography serves as a reflection of moments frequently forgotten. Those sweet firsts show your strength and love, connection and power! These photos are a processing tool, a portal to the best or hardest moments, and a viewpoint of a perspective you’d never get otherwise of seeing your partner support you. Singing hallelujah for some lactation coverage! We have been seeing increasing limited care, lack of support for lactation providers through insurance, companies flat out refusing to credential providers in their patients service areas all together… Aetna is paving the way and supporting their patients. Remember this during open enrollment this season ❤️ and in the meantime we can check your insurance coverage for our inhome IBCLC support. Just submit a lactation inquiry on our website.

Formula is EXPENSIVE! 🤢

Why would anyone want to waste it?? With the food safety rules for formula being so strict, once a baby has taken a drink from a bottle of formula it has to be used or tossed within the hour... ONE hour. Even if your little one has only taken one sip.

Is there a secret to saving formula? You bet there is! 🤗

It's called the "top-up" bottle!

First, you need to identify the range of ounces that you baby will take in a single feeding. Meaning, the minimum he takes is 4 ounces but the most he eats is 6 ounces.

👉🏻Then prepare a bottle that has the maximum amount your baby will take (^ 6 ounces).

👉🏻Before you offer a bottle to your baby, pour the difference between the minimum and maximum into a new bottle. So in our example, 2 ounces is going into another bottle, which is called the "Top-Up Bottle"!

👉🏻Offer your babe the bottle with the 4 ounces. Pay attention to hunger cues and if your baby drains that bottle with signs of still being hungry, pour another ounce from your top-up bottle into the original bottle.

If your little one seems satisfied with one more ounce, the leftover ounce can go back into the fridge for up to 24 hours since it has been left untouched! 🙌🏻
