Meet the 2026 ACMS Board of Directors Candidates!

We’re excited to introduce the candidates running for five open seats on the ACMS Board of Directors. Elected members will serve from January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2028, helping shape the future of medicine in Allegheny County.

Elections will be held September 2–9. Eligible members will receive their ballot via their preferred ACMS/PAMED email — make sure to check your inbox and cast your vote!

This week, we're proud to spotlight Dr. Peter Ellis, a distinguished retired physician whose career has left a lasting mark on oncology care in Pittsburgh and beyond.

Dr. Ellis spent over 30 years as a Hematologist/Oncologist, concluding his clinical career at UPMC Hillman Cancer Centers as Chief Medical Officer for the oncology network. He completed training at Pitt, Penn, and Duke, and remained deeply rooted in Pittsburgh throughout his career.

As a managing partner in a large oncology group of over 40 physicians, Dr. Ellis also co-founded Via Oncology, a platform for oncology clinical pathways that has been adopted by leading academic centers across the country (now known as ClinicalPath).

His leadership extended to the Allegheny County Medical Society (ACMS), where he served on both the Board and Executive Committee, finishing his term as Board President in 2022 and Board Chair in 2023. He now serves on the ACMS Foundation Board of Trustees, currently in the second year of a two-year term.

We’re proud to recognize Dr. Lauren Mathos, DO, FACP as our August Member of the Month! 🩺

A Pittsburgh native through and through, Dr. Mathos is an Internal Medicine physician, Assistant Professor at Drexel University, and core faculty for the AHN Internal Medicine Residency Program. She leads with purpose—whether she’s mentoring medical students, directing the MS3 Clerkship at Allegheny General, or co-directing the AHN Lifestyle Medicine Track.

From patient care to curriculum development, Dr. Mathos brings heart, innovation, and deep commitment to everything she does. Her passion for lifelong learning and improving community health makes her a standout leader in local medicine.

Named one of Pennsylvania Medical Society’s Top Physicians Under 40, Dr. Mathos continues to inspire future physicians and advocate for compassionate care. When she’s not working, you’ll find her skiing, strength training, or soaking up time with family and friends.

We’re back with another Friday Feature! 🩺
This week, we’re proud to spotlight Dr. Rasha Abdulmassih, a dedicated and highly skilled infectious disease specialist serving patients throughout the Pittsburgh region.

Board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease, Dr. Abdulmassih provides expert care for a wide range of complex conditions—including MRSA, osteomyelitis, surgical site infections, and HIV/AIDS. She’s known for her thorough, thoughtful approach and her commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.

Dr. Abdulmassih earned her medical degree from Damascus University and went on to complete her internal medicine residency at Western Michigan University School of Medicine. She later completed her fellowship in infectious disease at Allegheny Health Network, where she continues to serve as a trusted provider.

This week we are thrilled to spotlight Dr. Dillon Stein, AVP of Medicare Medical Services at UPMC Health Plan. With a background in internal medicine and palliative care, Dr. Stein is a physician leader committed to advancing care for vulnerable and at-risk populations through innovation and collaboration.

Dr. Stein completed his internal medicine residency at Allegheny Health Network and a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at UPMC. He previously served as Medical Director of Palliative Care at Independence Health System, where he led a high-performing interdisciplinary team focused on person-centered care for individuals with serious illness.

In his current role, Dr. Stein works across clinical, operational, and population health teams to improve quality and outcomes for Medicare members. He is also pursuing a Master of Medical Management at Carnegie Mellon University, further developing his expertise in healthcare strategy and systems leadership.

Throughout his career, Dr. Stein has demonstrated a passion for clinical quality, program development, and serving southwestern Pennsylvania through both direct patient care and innovative managed care models.

It’s time for another Friday Feature! 🎉

Today we are spotlighting Dr. Devon Ramaeker, Division Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Allegheny Health Network. With a focus on high-risk pregnancies, Dr. Ramaeker leads the way in providing personalized and advanced care for moms and babies.

Dr. Ramaeker is passionate about delivering high-quality care rooted in evidence-based medicine, patient education, and shared decision-making. She is committed to meeting patients where they are—both emotionally and medically—and empowering them to make informed choices they feel confident and comfortable with.

She is also helping to shape the practice of medicine through process improvement, continually evaluating how to enhance patient care across both outpatient and inpatient settings. She serves on multiple committees both within the health system and in the local community, all geared toward improving outcomes for patients and their families.

Dr. Ramaeker completed residency and fellowship at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, UPMC Magee-Womens . She earned her medical degree from the Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota School. Board-certified by both the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the American Board of Ob/Gyn-Maternal Fetal Medicine, Dr. Ramaeker exemplifies excellence in maternal and fetal care.
