July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month — a time to bring awareness to the unique mental health challenges that Black and Brown communities face, especially in the wake of COVID-19.

At the Black Equity Coalition (BEC), we believe that mental health is public health — and that healing must be rooted in equity, community, and culturally relevant care.

Black and Brown communities are less likely to receive mental health care — and more likely to face barriers like stigma, discrimination, and lack of providers who look like us.

Build spaces of rest, resilience, and recovery

Birmingham is not a Federally Qualified Health Center, but a completely free clinic. However, we work closely with most of the amazing FQHCs in our region, who do amazing work! The Big Ugly Bill's impact on Community Health Centers and FQHCs will be disastrous, and that will trickle down to free clinics such as Birmingham. We are one of only 6 free clinics in our region and cannot absorb the number of community members who may no longer be able to utilize their FQHC if this bill passes!

What can you do RIGHT NOW? Call your representatives in Congress to tell them to vote NO to this bill!
