CLIENT CORNER! This week’s success story features Carter*, a client in our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) clinic. Carter had been having difficulty transitioning away from wearing diapers. In just a couple of short weeks, with the use of consistent ABA techniques, positive reinforcement and collaboration between the staff members and Carter, toileting skills rapidly improved. Carter not only began staying dry but began communicating when he needed to use the bathroom. *Names and images do not represent actual clients of Familylinks.

April is Autism Awareness month, and today is World Autism Awareness Day. The theme for the month is “Celebrate Differences”. This month, Familylinks will proudly be featuring success stories to highlight accomplishments of all levels from our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) clinic and the staff who support them.

Today’s theme is “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value”, which encourages us to move beyond prejudice and limiting narratives to recognize the inherent value of autistic lives and ensure that autistic individuals can fully participate in education, healthcare, workplaces, and broader social life. Together, these themes aim to shift perception from awareness to acceptance, appreciation, and meaningful inclusion.

CLIENT CORNER! Leonard* began noticing that he was having more difficulty reading recipes and completing his daily crossword puzzles. He mentioned these issues to his Options Care Manager, who helped connect him with an outside agency that supports individuals with vision loss. After completing his evaluation, he began meeting with a home support aid. Leonard received assistance in scheduling and attending required appointments before undergoing eye surgery. Since his surgery, Leonard reports enhanced vision and renewed independence in completing day-to-day activities. *Names and images do not represent actual clients of Familylinks

When Sam* transitioned to their new school, the environment felt unfamiliar and overwhelming. On their first day, they were unable to walk into the classroom without significant support. With the consistent support of their Behavioral Health Technician and Registered Behavior Technician, Sam began to make meaningful progress. Small steps toward the door led to stepping just inside for a short time. Sam is now walking proudly and independently into the classroom each morning. *Names and images do not represent actual clients of Familylinks.
