It's Falls Prevention Week, Sept 22-26. a nationwide observance with state coalitions and partners to raise awareness on preventing falls, reducing the risk of falls, and helping older adults live without fear of falling.
Randy Hebert, MD, Community LIFE’s Medical Director, shares that falls are a serious concern for older adults. One in four adults over 65 experiences at least one fall each year, and falls remain the leading cause of injury in this age group.
At Community LIFE, we take fall prevention seriously. Through the LIFE model of care, our participants benefit from a dedicated team working together to keep them safe and independent:
• Medical team & pharmacist – Carefully review medications to ensure participants are only taking what they truly need.
• Physical Therapists – Provide individualized therapy and exercise programs at home and in our centers to help participants stay strong and mobile.
• Occupational therapists – Offer home safety assessments and provide specialized equipment to reduce risks in the home.
As Dr. Hebert emphasizes, falls are preventable—and with the right support, older adults can maintain strength, safety, and independence.
