A highlight of the day? Current students joined the showcase to share their clinical experiences and what makes being part of Pitt Chiropractic so special. Their insights brought the program to life in the most authentic way!

Each year, on the second Thursday of October, the day is dedicated to raising public awareness of the ombuds profession!
Meet Jessica Maguire, SHRS' Executive Director of Student Affairs and Student Ombudsperson. In both roles, Jessica is a trusted advocate and support for students—providing strategic leadership in admissions, advisement and student success, while also offering a confidential, neutral and independent space for students and postdocs to voice concerns through the Health Sciences Ombuds Office.

The 30th Annual Scully Lecture brought together our hybrid and on-campus Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students at The Box for an inspiring evening of connection and learning! 🎉
This year’s distinguished Scully Visiting Scholar, Professor Jessie Van Swearingen, delivered a powerful lecture on “Physical Therapy: A Vision to Thrive and of course the Neural Control of Movement.”
Before the lecture, students, faculty and staff enjoyed a lively social hour—complete with a Pittsburgh-style cookie table! 🍪

How long should night-shift workers nap to stay healthy and safe on the job? Pitt SHRS and School of Medicine (SOM) are teaming up to find out! 🛌💤
Led by SHRS and SOM researchers, this interdisciplinary study aims to identify the optimal nap duration for night-shift workers like paramedics, nurses and firefighters — with potential to reduce cardiovascular risk and improve patient safety.

From post‑bacc to fueling the field 🏃♀️🥗 Meet Mia Huber, a Dietitian Nutritionist student at Pitt who’s diving headfirst into her Sports Nutrition specialty rotation!
After earning her exercise science degree from Slippery Rock University, Mia joined Pitt’s DN program in 2023 through the post-baccalaureate entry point — and now she’s using her experience with Pitt Athletics and her passion for health, fitness and evidence‑based nutrition to support student athletes and help them perform at their best.

🚨 Big news! Yanshan Wang, Pitt Department of Health Information Management vice chair for research and assistant professor, is leading an SHRS interprofessional team on an NIH award that will examine using AI to enhance rehabilitation therapy care for stroke survivors.
With a $1.75M four-year R01 grant, titled “ARISE-CARE: Advancing Rehabilitation for Stroke Patients with AI to Elevate Therapy Care,” funded by the NIH National Library of Medicine, will improve the quality of rehabilitation interventions and evaluate the effectiveness of generative AI in clinical documentation. 🧠🤖
The SHRS team includes experts from Health Informatics and Occupational Therapy — Associate Professor Leming Zhou, Assistant Professor Ahmad P. Tafti, Professor Elizabeth Skidmore and Research Scientist Minmei Shih.
