POWER http://power-recovery.com More than 23 million Americans suffer from alcoholism and drug addiction, but only 11% receive treatment.

Women are the fastest-growing segment of substance users in the United States, with an estimated 2.7 million women abusing drugs or alcohol. Most women (66-90%) in treatment report histories of trauma, which may include domestic violence, early childhood sexual assault, physical abuse or neglect, loss of a child, or other traumatic experiences. Our staff is trained to understand the impact of trauma on recovery and our care reflects that understanding.

The generosity that touches POWER clients on the holidays also reaches their children. This is Teresa Flaherty of Christ Our Savior Parish bringing gifts for the children of POWER clients. Every year members of the parish buy so many gifts they fill a car – and fill many children’s hearts with joy.

Almost every year of POWER’s existence, POWER House women have received holiday gifts from the members of Delta Kappa Gamma – a shower caddy and a shopping bag for each woman, both filled with gifts. Just after they finished wrapping are Dr. Norma Ratti, Rose Ann Colosimo, Mary Young, Michele Megarry-Accord, Deb Beozzo, Sharon Shurman, Kathy Reim, Nancy Kodman, and Janet Falkowski.

The Community Health Worker is a respected member of our community who fosters trusting relationships and facilitates access to services to improve health outcomes. POWER's Community Health Worker works as an integral part of POWER's clinical team and recovery support team, and the greater Allegheny County community.

By completing a standardized Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) assessment each person's unique needs are assessed. Based on these needs, the CHW provides information, referrals and linkages to community resources.

Examples of resources provided are:
Medical Assistance and SNAP benefits
Resources for housing, food and healthcare
Behavioral Health and Physical Health referrals
Application for Social Security Disability Benefits

Who's eligible to work with the CHW? You are! All Allegheny County Residents are welcome, and there is no fee to receive this valuable help.
