BHS supports 24-hour emergency care with its three inpatient acute care facilities, Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) in Pittsfield, North Adams Regional Hospital (NARH) in North Adams, and Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, as well as the Satellite Emergency Facility on the BMC campus in North Adams. Our hospitals offer advanced imaging and lab services and are closely integrated with the specialty care provided at the BMC Cancer Center. Berkshire Visiting Nurses Association (BVNA), BHS Urgent Care Center, and the BHS medical group network of primary and specialty care providers extend our continuum of expert care beyond the hospital. As the largest employer in Berkshire County, BHS supports more than 4,000 jobs in the region, and, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, BHS is committed to partnering with local municipalities and community organizations to help the county thrive.

December is often a time of holiday gatherings filled with friends, family, traditions, and celebrations, but it can also be a season that brings up complex emotions. For many people, this time of year stirs up feelings of sadness, loneliness, or stress alongside, or even instead of, the expected joy.

Feeling depressed or experiencing the “holiday blues” during a festive season may seem contradictory, but acknowledging these emotions as real and valid is a critical first step toward caring for one’s mental health during this time.

In this month's health take-away in the Berkshire Eagle, learn about why the holidays can sometimes bring up stressful emotions and the actions you can take to help yourself decompress and manage these feelings: https://www.berkshireeagle.com/opinion/columnists/managing-holiday-stress-seasonal-depression/article_dc6b0a67-720c-4396-ae8f-e2c014dc9995.html

During her three-week hospitalization at Berkshire Medical Center, Roberta Todras briefly required care in the intensive care unit, then regained her strength on a medical floor and the inpatient rehabilitation unit. Roberta and her husband, Laird, donated to BMC in honor of her team of caregivers and the excellent care she received.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 226,000 new cases of lung cancer have been reported so far in 2025. While lung cancer remains a deadly disease, the number of new cases continues to decline, partly due to fewer people smoking or starting to smoke.

There are also groundbreaking robotic technologies that have transformed how medical professionals detect and treat lung cancer. Our lung cancer screening program has grown significantly since we launched it in 2013 from 300 scans the first year to over 3,500 in 2024
