This month we celebrate Luann. Luann works as a CNA here and completed her 47th year, with her anniversary on April 1st. Here is a piece of Luann's life since starting her career here at Eastside.
"47 years.... It has been a very long time, almost my whole lifetime. I was 19 years old when I started this career. I actually started out in Environmental Services in 1978. I have held various positions during my time here at Eastside. I have worked as a CNA, Rehabilitation CNA, Environmental Services Director, and as an Activity Director. I left to have a baby and returned in 1979 as a CNA. At that time CNAs did not have to be certified and when the laws were changed, I was already grandfathered in but was sent to Lafayette School of Nursing to get my certification. Two ladies convinced me to go into the nursing department because I really wasn't sure about Judy Lawson and Wendy Chaplin. I really wasn't sure if I was cut out for this kind of work. But here I am still today, so I thank those ladies for leading me into such a rewarding job. It is like going to take care of your own grandpa and grandma every day. It is an emotional job. Some days are very strenuous but most days I am glad I have had this journey with so many amazing people. Residents and staff. So many have come and gone in my time. I have seen so many changes in healthcare over the years for sure. I currently only work part time but I still enjoy coming to work and taking care of the residents."
This month we are honored to celebrate Luann’s 47 incredible years at Eastside and her continued dedication as a CNA.
