“Montaigne, the great French philosopher, adopted these seventeen words as the motto of his life: ‘A man is not hurt so much by what happens, as by his opinion of what happens.’ And our opinion of what happens is entirely up to us.”

"Feelings are information. When you get angry or you attack yourself/collapse, it means you care about something. It might also mean you feel vulnerable, overwhelmed, or scared as well. Anger covers that up so you don’t have to feel the vulnerability, the care, that’s driving it. If you feel the care when it arises, you can choose a response rather than reacting with anger or collapse."

Anger only ever arises because there is care first. Which means the first thing to arise, before anger, is caring. First caring, and then we make the conscious or

How We Gaslight Ourselves

1. Make excuses for other’s bad behavior. Instead of holding them accountable, we blame ourselves.

2. Invalidate our own feelings – “It’s not that big of a deal and other people have it worse”

3. Feel you are too sensitive, so you feel ashamed of your emotions and repress them further.

4. You don’t trust your own judgement and constantly second guess yourself because you don’t believe your own intuition.

Powerful thoughts on how to find yourself anew:
“How to find transformation? Teach yourself to attune to it. Find things that make you feel expansive. Find things that make you feel alive. Transformation is in letting go of your rational idea of what you know you should do and notice what you move towards, what you are curious about. Find people that energize you and make you feel more alive. It’s letting go of what you think you should do, where you think you should go, and just do the next thing you know to do.” quote from Boyd Varty
