As a CPST, as well as a postpartum doula, I take the safety of babies, toddlers, and young children very seriously. Something concerning is on my mind and I feel I have an obligation to our community families to speak up about it.
More “car seat cleaning companies” have been popping up and they are advertising in local community pages and are not CPST’s. (Child Passenger Safety Technician)
While I appreciate and support small businesses, I do not support people other than CPST’s or the owner of the seat, cleaning car seats. You can’t TRULY know they followed manufacturers cleaning recommendations. And certainly, if turnaround time is just a few hours, you can almost be sure it’s not being treated appropriately as far as washing, drying, and cleaning agents used.
Some may feel I’m being overly cautious, but you are potentially RISKING your child’s life by handing over your child’s car seat to a stranger.
Many manufacturers have strict rules as to how each seat must be cleaned & dried and the integrity of your car seat can be damaged which will deem the seat unsafe and unusable.
Hey, kids seats get gross, I get it! But it’s just not worth your child’s life to put the car seat cleaning into someone else’s hands.
Please use caution if you choose to use these services. I’m always happy to help as resource for anyone that has questions about how to clean their specific seat. So do I charge for asking questions like this? Never. I want every baby and child to be as safe as possible on the road.
Lovingly,
Tammy
