Since 2016, Marshall’s Emergency Department has partnered with El Dorado Community Health Center and the California Health Care Foundation to provide Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction. Patients in withdrawal are seen by a Substance Use Navigator (SUN), started on buprenorphine, and referred to follow-up care within 48 hours.
In FY24 alone, SUNs consulted with 900 people. The MAT/ED Bridge program connects patients to outpatient therapy, group sessions, counseling, and social services through Marshall CARES and EDCHC.
The program now also supports treatment for alcohol, ni****ne, and methamphetamine use. Fentanyl remains a growing threat in El Dorado County due to its potency and contamination risk.
