This information has been diverted from the public, as the medical system maintains mainly a drug-centered treatment for Parkinson’s. Most neurologists are not trained in nutrition and diet, though studies now pinpoint which foods worsen and actually cause Parkinson's brain damage.

There are numerous books explaining the "Brain on Fire" effects of sugar.... how a spike in blood sugar from a high-carb meal like pancakes or pnutbutter n jelly or cereal worsens confusion, irritability and tremor dyskinesia within a few hours after the meal.

These statistics are very consistent with how the brain works: unstable blood sugar stresses an already vulnerable dopamine system. Though the medical system hasn’t caught up to integrating diet into routine Parkinson’s care, do not wait to get on it! Get off the sugar.

Functional medicine integrative health experts share how a low-carb ketogenic diet stabilizes blood sugar, reduces these fluctuations, and improves motor and cognitive symptoms in Parkinson's.

The first meal of the day is "key" for preventing post-meal spikes that will trigger motor and cognitive issues through the rest of the day. Buy only organic stevia. Find the Nutricost or Now pure stevia brands without any added sweeteners.

Farmed produce contains pesticide residues, particularly paraquat and rotenone in strawberries, spinach, apples, grapes, and bell peppers. Studies show these two are the major contributors to Parkinson’s. (They are banned in Europe but sadly still used in the U.S.) This is why organic is the only option for produce.
Limit fruit due to sugar, nay have 1/4 organic berries (blueberries or raspberries) a day.

Fried Foods as frozen or in fast food take-out use oxidized seed oils (soybean, canola, vegetable, and corn oil) that are "reheated repeatedly"—this leads to lipid peroxides and advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which rapidly damages brain neurons and dopamine neurons which are very sensitive.
Stick to making your own stir fried meats using MCT, avocado oil. Butter and olive oil are for much lower heat and should never be used to fry.

Conventional Dairy (non-organic milk, cheese, ice cream—especially low-fat and skim milk)—has been directly linked to Parkinson’s due to pesticide and hormone residues. Especially in all Skim Milk: this directly relates to pesticide contamination, and the livestock-fed hormones, the exact mechanism is still being studied.
Buy only Organic, or 100% grass-fed dairy; avoid the nut milks unless they are organic and unsweetened.

Commercial Baked Goods:
Includes store-bought muffins, cereal, ramen, macaroni and cheese, cookies, pastries, white bread and donuts are all made with refined flour, trans fats, and additives. These 3 toxic products raise inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain; well known to increase systemic inflammation and insulin resistance thruout the body, which affects brain health and dopamine sensitivity. Sodas (especially diet soda):
Both the sugar and artificial sweeteners severely harm dopamine neurons and increase insulin resistance, which markedly worsens neurodegeneration.

Flavored Coffee Creamers and Powdered Mixes:

This is built around 3 goals:

1. Keep strength up (protein + electrolytes)

2. Maintain electrolytes for electricity in body (sp: sodium, potassium, and magnesium)

3. Reduce inflammation and treatment side effects while supporting detox pathways.

Core Rules for Caregivers:

- Do not let them get dehydrated (this is HUGE, give 2 qts a day of unsweetened electrolyte water )
- Do not push large meals — small, high fat is better
- Protein is non-negotiable (serve meat and eggs even if appetite is low)
- Sea Salt is your friend, 2 tsp a day (especially if doing chemo)

- If food tastes metallic give more electrolyte powder (5 scoops) and more sodium sea salt (3tsp)

Morning (within 30 minutes of waking)

PREVENTING & HALTING DEMENTIA
Most people are told that dementia is irreversible and will only get worse.

That’s not entirely true.

While these conditions are complex and not always fully reversible, many people can slow progression—and in many cases regain meaningful function—by addressing the UNDERLYING biological drivers of cause.

THE THREE CORE DRIVER "CAUSES" of ALL neurodegenerative progression:

1. Brain energy failure (mitochondrial dysfunction)
2. Chronic inflammation
3. Poor metabolic function and nutrient deficiencies.

This simply means that neurodegenerative decline starts when the brain’s cells don’t have what they need to function: 1. enough electrolytes and minerals, 2. healthy fats and nutrients. Without these building blocks, mitochondria—the neurons’ power plants—struggle to make energy.

Energy-starved neurons become stressed and start sending “danger signals,” which triggers chronic immune activation in the brain. Over time, this ongoing inflammation damages neurons and their connections.

So poor diet, alcohol exposure, and stressors like TBI or toxins can set off a chain reaction: nutrient deficits = mitochondrial/energy failure = immune activation = progressive brain damage.

TBI Matters
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) also creates long-term stress.
