Ending another term with straight A’s and 189 clinical hours logged. That is only counting hours in direct client care and backend stuff like filing birth certificates, sending in orders, assigning faxes to client charts and updating labs. This does not include time spent on homework, running extra errands like dropping off labs or draws/labs that aren’t at appointments, studying, filling out paperwork… I couldn’t even begin to guess how much time spent over the last 16 weeks on those tasks. To say I am proud of myself would be a gross understatement. One more week of break and we’re back at it! Next term I’m taking prenatal 2, homeopathy, suturing, fetal heart rate surveillance, a course on trauma informed care and another practicum class.

Being a student midwife is a lot like labor.

It starts slow, builds momentum, hits the storm of transition, and eventually you emerge transformed. Shaken, stronger, forever changed by the beauty and challenge of the journey.

Right now I’m standing at the edge of Phase 3, the step where I move into the role of Primary Midwife Under Supervision. This is where the training wheels start to come off, where I will eventually begin running the show with my trusted preceptor by my side, and where I start stepping into the midwife I’ve been working so hard to become.

This moment has been a long time coming. So many hours, so many sacrifices. Blood, sweat (SO much sweat), and tears. I didn’t know if I’d make it this far, but I did. And I am so incredibly proud of myself.

I also wouldn’t be here without .mauch . She’s not just a preceptor, she’s a guide, a mentor, and the kind of midwife I aspire to be. She sees people deeply. She trusts me when I forget to trust myself. She pushes me to be better (even if she’s sometimes mean about it 😜) And she has poured so much into my growth that I will never be able to fully put it into words. Truly, the sun shines out of her ass and we are all better for it.

The finish line is still ahead, but it’s finally on the horizon. And for the first time, I believe with everything in me that I’ll get there.

Wrapped up June last night with my 5th birth attended in the last 2 weeks and one of my very favorite humans in the whole wide world, . So grateful to have such an amazing mentor and friend to walk this path with me ♥️

3 baby’s in the last 7 days, 2 in the last 15 hours and 2 more ready to come any minute now! All on top of school work, apprenticing, momming and trying to maintain some sketch of a personal life. Just over here working my butt off! It’s fine tho, this is fine. Truth be told I wouldn’t have it any other way! Anyway. I’ll be buried in homework and processing placentas if anyone needs me!

We’re not even halfway through the month and it has been CRAZY busy!

4/1 we welcomed a new life to the world! It was such a privilege to watch her warrior mama bring her forth in such a supernatural otherworldly space. I was in such awe of this amazing woman! And that baby… oh that sweet, sweet baby girl. 😍😍😍

This last week has been all the prenatals and postpartums and consults and things! I’ve learned SO much in the last 13 days I’m glad the next week slows down a little bit for me to digest it all!

I’ve been at this for nearly a year now (in June) and I can’t believe it’s already been that long?! I can’t even fathom that this is my life sometimes. I am really out here living my dream and doing the things and can you even believe that?! Cause sometimes I can’t! I wouldn’t be here without the support of my mentors, family, friends and of course you guys cheering me on. Thank you for all of it!!

This morning we welcomed a new life into the world. Her mama was so brave and powerful while bringing her forth! It’s such a humbling experience having the opportunity to watch these humans in all of their beauty and strength.

It is with great honor that I am able to announce that I will be taking the next step toward a future in midwifery and serving our amazing community! I have been accepted into the Midwives College of Utah summer 2024 cohort! I am so excited to expand my knowledge of the childbearing year and have the opportunity to better serve my community.
