When Lilly* first reached out to us, she described feeling like she was constantly at war with herself. A high-achieving professional, she had spent years striving for perfection in every area of her life—her career, her relationships, and even her body. But the harder she tried to control things, the more she felt like she was losing herself.

Her relationship with food became a battleground, and her faith, which once brought her comfort, began to feel like a source of guilt and pressure. Lilly felt stuck, unsure of how to move forward.

Through our enhanced CBT-E approach, Lilly began to explore the deeper narratives that shaped her struggles. Together, we worked on untangling the beliefs that tied her self-worth to perfection and control. Slowly, she started to find balance—learning to approach food with curiosity instead of fear, and reconnecting with her faith in a way that felt nurturing instead of punishing.

Today, Lilly describes her journey as one of self-discovery. She’s found a sense of peace and freedom she never thought possible, and she’s learning to embrace herself just as she is.

Healing is a journey, and it’s okay to take the first step even when it feels daunting. Have you ever felt like perfectionism has taken over your life? You’re not alone, and we’re here to help.

Body image is a complex issue that affects everyone differently. For Black women, societal pressures and stereotypes can add layers of complexity. As a white clinician, I acknowledge the importance of listening and learning from each client's unique experience. While I bring expertise in therapy, the client is the expert on their own life. Together, we can celebrate diversity in body image and promote self-acceptance and celebration.
