Some days we all need a place to land. 💚
At Yoga Flow for Mental Health, that place is often right here—on the grass at Gibbs Park, breathing beside other people who showed up just like you did: tired, hopeful, carrying a lot, and ready for something good.

There’s something beautiful about moving together outdoors. The way the sun feels a little softer when you’re in community. The way strangers become familiar. The way a simple practice can help turn an ordinary evening into something grounding, healing, and full of connection.

We love these moments because they remind us that wellness doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s just a mat, fresh air, kind faces, and the decision to make the best of the day. ✨

Self-care is one of the first things I tend to put on the back burner when life gets busy… but it’s actually the one thing I need most in those moments, 🤍 is the same true for you?

Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish, lazy, or something you have to “earn.” It’s a necessary part of feeling grounded, healthy, and able to show up fully for your life.

Even small acts of self-care can help👇
✨ reduce stress�
✨ improve your mood�
✨ support better sleep�
✨ increase focus and energy�
✨ create a sense of calm and balance�
✨ help you feel more connected to yourself

And the best part? Self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate or time-consuming or expensive.

A few low-effort self-care rituals you can practice almost anywhere😁
👉take 3 slow, deep breaths�
👉stretch your neck, shoulders, or hips�
👉light a candle and pause for a moment�
👉write one page in your journal�
👉step outside for fresh air�…. literally touch grass
👉drink a glass of water mindfully�
👉 put your hand on your heart and check in with yourself�
👉say “no” to something that drains your energy

These are some small things I like to do, while remembering little things count, small moments matter, self-care doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful. 🌿

As we prepare for our summer break, your BBYWC team and I will be embracing this season of self-care and restoration during our hiatus! Don't forget, you can still find us leading classes at Gibbs Park for our Outdoor Wellness Series, along with special pop-up classes and even a few offerings from our teacher trainees as they prepare to graduate from our RYT 200 program! Our Regularly scheduled public classes will return in the fall!

I've learned a lot about the lessons of yoga of the years. A favorite is exploring and being aware of Tapas in my practice and daily life. Tapas in the modern world doesn’t always look dramatic.� Sometimes it looks like setting your alarm 20 minutes earlier… and actually getting up.

Not because you feel wildly inspired.�Not because it’s easy.�But because you know those 20 minutes of movement, breath, or stillness change how you meet your day.
Maybe the first morning you hit snooze.�The second morning you only sit for 5 minutes.�The third morning your mind races the whole time.
And still—you return.

That is tapas.

Not punishment.�Not perfection.�But the steady inner fire of discipline.�The willingness to keep showing up, even when it would be easier not to.

In today’s world, tapas might look like:�
🔥 putting down your phone to meditate�
🔥 taking your practice instead of skipping it�
🔥 choosing consistency over intensity�
🔥 honoring the commitment you made to yourself

Real transformation rarely happens in one big moment.�It happens in the quiet decision to begin again, and again, and again.

That’s tapas.�The heat that purifies.�The practice that strengthens.�The devotion that changes us over time. Showing up and expanding your self discipline can be tough sometimes, but you are so worth it! While we are on our summer break hiatus, I hope you stay consistent with your practice, catch us outside for our outdoor series, or join us for an upcoming pop-up or workshop!
