📚 Did you know speech therapy isn’t just about talking?
SLPs play a big role in developing reading and literacy skills! Strong language skills are the foundation for strong reading.
If your child struggles with sounding out words, understanding stories, or expressing their thoughts, speech therapy can help.
✨ We love supporting kids in becoming confident readers and communicators!

✨ Fun Friday: Make Your Own Sensory Bottle! ✨
Sensory bottles are calming, mesmerizing tools that kids love—and they’re so easy to make at home! They can help with focus, emotional regulation, and give little hands a fun DIY project. 🧴🌈
You’ll need:
A clear plastic bottle (with lid)
Warm water
Clear glue or glitter glue
Food coloring (optional)
Glitter, beads, or sequins
Steps:
1️⃣ Fill the bottle halfway with warm water.
2️⃣ Add glue (the more you add, the slower things move!).
3️⃣ Mix in glitter, beads, or sequins.
4️⃣ Add a few drops of food coloring.
5️⃣ Fill the rest with water, seal tightly (hot glue the lid if needed).
6️⃣ Shake, watch, and relax!
💡 Try making different bottles—calming blues, cheerful yellows, or rainbow glitter!

🧠✨ Brain Break + Speech Boost! ✨🧠
Sometimes kids just need a quick reset during the day. A short brain break helps them refocus—and we can sneak in some speech practice too! 🙌
Try this 2-minute activity:
🎵 “Name & Move” Game
1️⃣ Say a category (animals, foods, colors).
2️⃣ Your child names an item in that category.
3️⃣ After each word, do a fun movement together (jump, spin, clap, stretch).
✅ Why it works:
Gets the body moving → better focus 🏃‍♂️
Builds vocabulary & word retrieval 🗣️
Encourages turn-taking and fun 💡
💬 Perfect for homework breaks, transitions, or after school energy bursts!

Call PFG Therapy to schedule a free screening or an evaluation with one of our SLPs today for these and other tips!

⏳ Visual Timers: A Simple OT Tool for Kids ⏳
Visual timers give kids a clear picture of how much time is left. Instead of just hearing “5 more minutes,” they see time passing!
Why OTs love them:
✨ Reduce transitions stress (ending play, starting homework, bedtime)
✨ Build independence and time management skills
✨ Help kids with attention, sensory needs, or anxiety
✨ Turn “surprises” into predictable routines
💡 Try using a sand timer, digital timer with a countdown, or even a visual timer app.
🖐 Tip: Start small! Use it for one daily routine (like cleanup time) and gradually add more.

🎲🗣️ Board Games & Language Development 🎲🗣️
Did you know board games aren’t just fun—they’re amazing for building speech and language skills too? 🙌
When kids play games like Candy Land, Chutes & Ladders, or Guess Who, they’re practicing:
✨ Turn-taking & waiting – learning patience and social skills
✨ Following directions – listening carefully and understanding rules
✨ Sequencing – remembering what comes first, next, and last
✨ Vocabulary building – naming colors, shapes, actions, and more
✨ Answering & asking questions – keeping conversations going
✨ Flexible thinking – handling surprises like “Go back 3 spaces!”
💡 Bonus: Board games also bring families together and make learning feel like play!
👉 Try adding a game night to your weekly routine—it’s fun, screen-free, and full of learning opportunities.

🍴🥒 Calling all Kitchen Helpers! ✨
The kitchen isn’t just for cooking—it’s the perfect place for building fine motor skills! 💪
✅ Stirring batter = arm and hand strength
✅ Snapping green beans = finger dexterity
✅ Tearing lettuce = bilateral coordination (using both hands together)
✅ Spreading peanut butter = motor control + independence
When kids help in the kitchen, they’re practicing the same skills they’ll need for writing, dressing, and self-care—plus they get to feel proud and included. 🥰
👉 Pro tip: Start small with safe, simple tasks and celebrate every effort!

✨ Silly Story Starter for Speech Therapy ✨

“Once upon a time, a gigantic talking cupcake decided to go to school. On the way, it met a dancing giraffe who wanted to…”

👉 Encourage your child to:
Add details (Who did they meet? What happened next?)
Practice target sounds (swap “cupcake,” “cat,” or “cow” for /k/ sound practice, etc.)
Work on sequencing (First…, then…, last…)

Fun activity to do in the car, in a restaurant, waiting room, or anywhere to keep kids entertained PLUS work on speech and language at the same time!
