The focus amongst the therapists now is on wellness and prevention . Teaching parenting skills, focusing on early childhood development and trying to prevent the onset of psychological symptoms by working through interpersonal issues . Focus on art and creative outlets like music and dance , nature walks , meditation, group activities for all ages , horticulture , pets for emotional support etc. Slowing down the pace and making time to cherish simple routine tasks . Teaching skills like laundry , cooking , knitting , sewing and budgeting .

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a debilitating under diagnosed biological disorder that needs treatment . With psychotherapy and psychopharmacological intervention one third respond partially, one third are treated and one third get no relief . Often OCD is accompanied with comorbid Major Depressive Disorders , ADHD , Bipolar Mood Disorder and other Anxiety Disorders . Even though there is no cure the treatments can provide some relief .It is ego dystonic and patients realize that the thoughts are bothersome to them intrusive and not normal . Reality can seem distorted due to the troublesome nature of the thoughts . Compulsive behaviors ensue to rid the thoughts which can be problematic . Please seek help if you do suffer mental anguish from OCD .

What is integrated psychiatry practice ? In the geographical area that I live in which is New Jersey this means treating the mentally ill and chemical dependent or abusing individual in the community with the team of physicians in primary care and in various specialties. The weekly individual sessions are done by a counselor usually a social worker or a clinical psychologist . Myself being the adult and geriatric psychiatrist evaluates and treats the patients with psychopharmacological agents , sees the patient for egosupportive and cognitive behavioral therapy for 30 min . Often the couple or a family member is in the session . Treatment plan is discussed with patient . All treatment is outpatient in an office setting in person .Confidentiality is key and information is disclosed to the third party when the patient gives written consent to do so .
