SCOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! 💥💥💥 We got our blood pumping with some noodle floor hockey. The staff had a great time cheering everyone on. It’s also a great game to help keep sharp and maintain hand/eye coordination. The best of both worlds in an activity!

📣 Today we have a very special spotlight - Cathie Doyle, LNHA, MPA , our very own Administrator for over 30 years!

Cathie was called to this professional at an early age, and it wouldn’t be the same around here without her and the incredible impact she leaves on staff and residents every day. Check out some of her feelings about the job, and the impact it’s left on her.

" This healthcare calling has been my whole life…my mother was an amazing Administrator for 25+ years before me, and I can so clearly remember as a little kid going to her facility on holidays and visiting with the residents. Now I have been an Administrator for over 30 years, and I have brought my daughter (and pets!) to visit and put a smile on the residents’ faces!

I learned a long time ago that if an Administrator focuses on excellent patient care, safety, customer service, communication and happy staff then that facility will be a successful one.

Our facility is no longer just for the elderly that have moved in until end of life (although we do have several over 100!) Recently we discharged home a young 23 year old man who was here for rehabilitation from a terrible car accident - watching him walk out unassisted to his car was incredible to see! We have served hundreds - if not thousands - of people that needed short-term care and it is fulfilling for sure!

I tell my friends “I hope you don’t need us, but you know Central Island Healthcare is the place to go if you do!”. "

Purim is a joyful Jewish holiday that reminds us of courage, kindness, and the power of standing together. It tells the story of Queen Esther, who bravely helped save her people in ancient Persia. Rabbi Lipszyc from the Chabad in Woodbury came to share the story of Purim with our residents, and we also enjoyed some Hamantaschen!

February is Black History Month, and we spent it learning all about influential Black historical figures through presentations and play.

The game " Who Am I? " gave clues about achievements, time periods, contributions and leadership roles, we then had to identify the mystery figures. Along the way we learned about trailblazers in civil rights, science, politics, arts, arts, sports sports and culture who helped shape history.

Black History Month Bingo was also being both educational and fun. The Bingo caller provided a summary of prominent individuals in Black History, and players had to guess who it is and once and find them on their Bingo card.

We also displayed posters and banners that included quotes and insights from Black figures around the facility for inspiration and education.

We put on our game faces for Ice Hockey, Snowman Archery, and an Ice Scoop Challenge as we celebrated the Winter Olympics 💪 Residents rotated through each station and cheered each other on! For closing ceremony we watched some of the 2026 winter Olympic highlights so far.
