May is Mental Health Awareness Month! 🧠

Mental health is a right, not a privilege. It is the foundation of how we love, how we work, how we parent, and how we heal.

For Black, Indigenous, Latine, Asian, and other communities of color, access to affirming mental health care is often limited—yet the need is great. We carry generations of resilience and resistance, but also pain that deserves to be seen, held, and processed in safe, supportive spaces.

At Mind Your Therapy, we are committed to providing care that is culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and deeply human. We honor the lived experiences of those navigating systems that were not built with them in mind.

This month, we are offering low- to no-cost sessions through our exceptional graduate-level interns. Our mission is to bridge the gap for those who need support and may not otherwise have access.

Therapy isn’t just for when things are falling apart — it’s for keeping things together.

Too often, especially in Black and Brown communities, we’re taught to be strong, to pray through it, to wait it out. But waiting until things get unbearable in your relationship can do more harm than good.

Couples therapy isn’t a sign of failure — it’s a sign of commitment. It’s saying, “We matter enough to try. We’re worth fighting for in healthy ways.”

Being proactive about your relationship is powerful. Whether you’re dating, married, or somewhere in between, therapy can help you both grow, communicate better, and unlearn patterns that don’t serve you.

Love deserves care — especially in communities where we’ve been taught to survive instead of thrive. Your relationship is worthy of support. You are too.

Breaking the Stigma: ADHD in Communities of Color

ADHD is often misunderstood, especially in Black and Brown communities. Too many people still believe it’s just about being “hyper” or “not trying hard enough,” when in reality, ADHD is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that affects focus, impulse control, and executive functioning.

The Misconceptions:
❌ “ADHD is just an excuse for laziness.”
❌ “Black and Brown kids are just ‘bad’ or ‘disruptive.’”
❌ “Only boys have ADHD.”
❌ “You can’t have ADHD if you’re successful.”

These harmful stereotypes often lead to misdiagnosis or no diagnosis at all. Instead of getting the support they need, many kids (and adults) in BIPOC communities are labeled as “problematic,” leading to punitive discipline in schools or struggles with mental health in adulthood.

Barriers to Diagnosis & Treatment:
⚠️ Lack of Access – Many families face financial and systemic barriers to quality mental healthcare.
⚠️ Cultural Stigma – Mental health struggles are often dismissed, leading to shame and silence.
⚠️ Bias in Healthcare & Education – Black children are more likely to be disciplined than evaluated for ADHD.

It’s time to change the conversation. ADHD is real, and getting a diagnosis isn’t about labeling—it’s about understanding yourself and getting the right tools to thrive. If you or someone you love is struggling, seeking an evaluation could be life-changing.

Let’s break the stigma and make mental health care accessible to all!

Mind Your Therapy Stands with Trans Kids

At Mind Your Therapy, we believe that every child deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated for who they are. Trans kids deserve love, respect, and access to safe, affirming care—just like everyone else.

We are committed to providing a space where trans youth and their families feel heard, valued, and empowered. Mental health support should be a place of healing, not harm. We will always advocate for the well-being of trans kids and stand against policies or practices that threaten their rights.

To the trans community: We see you. We support you. You belong.
