It is okay to tune out sometimes. There are times when tuning out of the bigness & complexity is functional. Focusing on what is right in front of you or favorite things or items of comfort, can help you to cope. It is only when we are perpetually numbed or tuned out or avoiding that it may become an issue. Humans have a need to reduce their attention to regulate. Hope you find some small comfortable and safe things when you need to.

“Today’s Mantra: I am bigger than my emotions. I am the sea and there are just waves.”
# Surfing the waves of emotions can be very difficult. Sometimes inexplicably they are so strong, and it is easy to forget that we are the vessel that contains them, and not the other way around. We must acknowledge them, and maybe we need someone’s help to hold them with us. We like to attach stories to the waves but the wind and weather of life happen every day no matter what. We are humans who are affected. We are hit with changing brains and bodies and circumstances. When it feels too much, I hope you will reach out for help and support.

Micro-breaks: name your feeling, reassure yourself, don’t go into the details of it, hand on heart, closing your eyes, relaxing muscle tension, imagining a clam place, or listening to very calm music.

I am a counselor in Dallas, Texas specializing in addiction and eating disorders. I left my career as a college admissions advisor to go back to school with the goal of helping others in a new capacity. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Administration from UTA, I earned my Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University. Ever since then, I have been providing therapy for people suffering from mental health struggles, addiction, eating disorders, and life challenges. I use an eclectic approach that includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Emotional Transformation Therapy, and some components of Dialectical Behavior Therapy & Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is my goal to help clients find their inner strength and capacity for healing. I am a believer that life is meant to be purposeful and celebrated, not suffered through. Being recovered from addiction myself for 10+ years, I wholeheartedly know that recovery is not just possible, it is fulfilling and beautiful. In my free time, I enjoy practicing yoga, reading, meditating, traveling, spending time with my husband and children, and connecting with friends and family.
I want to help you tap into your ability to:
Gain independence from the things that are holding you back
