What’s the difference between a lumpectomy and a mastectomy? Let’s break it down. 💡

When it comes to breast cancer surgery, each patient’s path is unique. Here’s a quick comparison of two common surgical options:

🔹 Lumpectomy:
– Removes only the tumor and a small margin of surrounding tissue
– Often called breast-conserving surgery
– Typically followed by radiation therapy
– Preserves most of the breast’s shape

🔹 Mastectomy:
– Removes the entire breast (and sometimes nearby lymph nodes)
– May be recommended for larger or multiple tumors, or higher genetic risk
– Can be followed by reconstruction (immediate or delayed)

Both are valid, effective treatments. What’s best depends on your diagnosis, goals, and lifestyle.

✨ At Complete Breast Care, we walk beside you every step of the way. From genetic testing to surgical options and aftercare, we’re here to help you make the decision that feels right for you.

🧬 Should you consider genetic testing for breast cancer?
Knowledge is power. And in some cases, it can be life-saving.

Genetic testing helps identify inherited risks for breast, ovarian, and other cancers by looking at changes in your DNA, like BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations.

You may want to consider testing if you or a close relative has:
✔️ Breast cancer before age 50
✔️ Ovarian cancer
✔️ Triple-negative breast cancer before age 60
✔️ Male breast cancer in the family
✔️ A strong family history or Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry

At Dr. Anglin’s office, we provide the support, resources, and referrals you need to make empowered decisions about your health. Whether you’re considering preventative options or just want to learn more, we’re here for you.
