Over the past year, Kyle Dvorak has become quite familiar with our Royse City center. She needed two knee replacements, one in January and one in April, both of which were followed by physical therapy sessions.
After her first surgery in January, Kyle worked with Physical Therapist Jacob Arrington. It was hard, but she pushed through her treatments and was able to move from a walker to a cane with Jacob's help.
Even though she had improved enough to be discharged, Kyle still had a lot of pain in her other knee. She depended on a cane to get around, avoided climbing stairs and doing other strenuous activities. That's when she decided to have the second surgery.
Following her second knee replacement, Kyle started working with Physical Therapist Aaron Carr, since Jacob had moved centers by then. Since one knee was fully healed, Aaron was able to push her a little harder.
"My most memorable feeling of accomplishment with Aaron was when he proved to me that I could stand up without pushing myself up from a chair using my hands," Kyle said. "I really didn't think I could do it, but he showed me that I could."
At the speed Aaron and Kyle worked, she was off her walker faster and moving around easier, too. Aaron could tell Kyle's cues from looking at her, knowing when to give breaks and when she was pushing too much.
At 72, Kyle is retired, so she spends her time volunteering at church and watching her grandchildren enjoy their extra-curricular activities. While she's still noticing some issues with stairs, she's able to go up and down much better.
"The most important thing I hope to do after therapy was to just walk normally again," Kyle shared. "I can do that now, except for the stairs, and even those are getting easier now."
