Spending the day with my forever valentine. My wife is the reason I’m a good man, husband, father, and therapist. If you like anything about me, it’s a credit to the joy I feel with having her in my life.

I was able to speak to Junior high kids about being a mental health professional. Most common question: “how did you know you wanted to be a therapist?”
Me: “I’m a yapper. I just like to talk to people.”

I wish it was more complex but that’s basically my origin story. I found a profession that allows me to do what I would be doing if I was paid or not. ✌🏽

I made the last post out of a suggestion from the man I trust the most in the world, and that’s my dad. He was laid off in the early 2000s when I was in highschool and brother in college. It was a scary time. He told me a few things to do but the most important was to not keep it a secret. Tell people what happened because there could be someone out there who could support you. And even without any mental health training, it’s clear this advice from my dad (a retired accountant) is aware of how much shame that can come with this type of event.

I’ve gotten lots of public and private messages. Support from friends and strangers. It’s overwhelming to be honest but even if I haven’t responded yet, know I’m very grateful for all the love. 👊🏽

I was laid off my corporate job a week ago. I know a lot of people know me from my private practice however this entire time, I’ve had a 9-5 gig that allowed me to support my family and my small business.

I was not expecting to be laid off and to be transparent, I’m still processing the whole thing. I’m sharing this because I know I’m not the only one struggling with job loss. I maintained my practice because I love being a therapist and wake up every day wanting to provide mental wellness to those in need. Now, I get to make this practice my main source of income as well as joy. I’ll miss my co workers and colleagues I made however, being a provider is truly my purpose.

If you know of men in Texas looking for therapeutic support, I’d love to be considered for your referrals. I’ll also be adding some services here in the next few weeks. A share would be phenomenal.

I’ll be ok. We’ll be ok. Strength in dialogue.
