Honored to share my book alongside one of the incredible patients who inspired it. Her strength and journey with retinitis pigmentosa remind me why I wrote My Eyes Are Unique!

Meet our brother and sister eye doctor duo at EyeHealth Texas!

Dr. Shashi Alloju is our cornea specialist ophthalmologist and recently employed his younger sister, Dr. Pooja Alloju our contact lens specialist optometrist! Thankfully they like each other enough to work together and are a pretty good team!

Leave a comment if you’ve seen both of them and your experience!

Not everyone knows about my professional ventures outside of being an ophthalmologist at Eyehealth Texas.

Four years ago, a few of my fellow solo ophthalmologists and myself came together and created a company called Independent Practice Partners to help others build, successful solo practices. Besides are own practices, we have built 17 (and counting) practices to help fellow ophthalmologists build their dream practices. The landscape of medicine is changing and the physician must take back control instead of having PE companies and MBAs tell you what you can or cannot do. We are physicians who have done it on their own and have done it well.

February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and low vision awareness month.

AMD is the leading cause of low vision and blindness in Americans age 60 years and older and affects 1.6 million Americans.

AMD is an acquired degeneration of the retina that causes significant central visual impairment. New treatments have dramatically changed the course of this disease over the last 10 years, making AMD more manageable than ever before. The chances of developing Age Related Macular Degeneration increase with age.

*Early detection in this disease is a critical first step. Make sure you are getting yearly eye exams. Make an appointment with our doctors at EyeHealth Texas and they can help you with this. 469-606-9686

Things you can do to help reduce your risk of AMD:

*Eat a diet with plenty of green, leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach, and collard greens, and fresh fruit. Fish that is high in omega-3 fatty acids is good for eye health. Try to include it in your diet at least once or twice a week. Types of fish that are high in omega-3 fatty acids include salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring, and albacore tuna.
*not smoking and maintaining healthy blood pressure are important first steps.
*It’s important to keep your body healthy. Maintain a healthy weight, exercise regularly, maintain healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The healthier your body, the more it can foster good eye health.
*Protect your eyes. Wear sunglasses and a hat with a visor in bright sunlight to protect your eyes from potentially harmful ultra-violet (UV) light and blue light.
