Due to the severity of the weather we are expecting with Hurricane Milton this week, we have made the decision to POSTPONE the 47th Annual Pioneer Day to Saturday, November 2, 2024. Set up takes 4 days and with the bad weather starting tomorrow and going through Thursday, it just couldn't take place on the 12th. We hope you will be able to join us on Saturday, November 2, 2024 and prepare to be safe during the storm. Thank you.

Today's research led me to information about a man's family from the Temple Terrace area. He moved his family to Cedar Key in the late 1800s, and I came across information about his wife and daughter dying in the 1896 hurricane that decimated the area islands near Cedar Key. His wife had gone over to one of the nearby islands, Shell Island, to visit family, and everyone (seven persons) in the home drowned. Reading the news articles made me think about how today, 128 years later, we are tracking Hurricane Helene minute by minute, and we have been preparing for days. We aren't being blindsided and literally wiped off the face of the earth with no notice. My bottom line is that this is where we should greatly appreciate the weather services and how the agencies and newspapers save lives by keeping us aware. Stay safe, everyone.

Higher fee, new SSA website So... you want a copy of that ancestor's application for a Social Security number, do you? You can get it. But it's going to cost you more than it used to, and there's a new web page that the Social Security Administration wants you to use to order it. Welcome
