Jessica initially came to the center seeking information about her options after receiving several positive home pregnancy tests. She shared that the father of the baby was aware of the pregnancy, but she feared he may prefer abortion and might not remain involved. Although Jessica lived alone, she did have the support of her parents regardless of her decision. She also shared that she had experienced a previous abortion and felt pressured into making that choice, which deeply impacted her emotionally.
During Jessica’s appointment, a pregnancy test confirmed she was pregnant. We provided compassionate, nonjudgmental education on all of her options, including parenting, adoption, and abortion. Special emphasis was placed on informing Jessica that no woman should ever feel forced or pressured into an abortion decision. Although she initially did not feel adoption was the right path for her, we explained the different types of adoption and the support available through each option. We also discussed the emotional and physical risks associated with abortion and the importance of receiving an ultrasound to confirm the viability of the pregnancy.
We reviewed parenting resources and explained the many ways our center could support Jessica throughout her pregnancy and beyond. During the conversation, she shared that she believed in God and had grown up in the church. We had the opportunity to share the Gospel with her and encouraged her to reach out if she ever wanted to grow deeper in her faith. When asked if we could pray with her, Jessica became emotional and expressed gratitude for the kindness and compassion she had received. We prayed together for wisdom and peace regarding her decision.
Although Jessica left the initial appointment still uncertain, she shared that the genuine care she experienced at the center had strongly influenced her toward choosing life.
At her follow-up ultrasound appointment, Jessica was able to see her baby and hear the heartbeat for the first time. Afterward, she completed a survey and wrote, “I was unsure and once I heard the heartbeat I was sold!” Ultimately, Jessica chose life for her baby.
Because of the faithful support of people who believe in the mission of the Pregnancy Care Center of Plant City, a life was saved and a young mother found hope, compassion, and encouragement during one of the most difficult moments of her life.
