Kansas City Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis has been to the Super Bowl twice before. The 23-year-old has played in (and won) two Super Bowls in his first two NFL seasons. To mentally prepare for the big game, he shared “It goes back to your routine. When you're regimented, and you have a routine, that helps with everything.” Finding comfort in a routine is a great tactic to keep your mental health strong prior to a big moment.

Penn State punter, Riley Thompson, shared that he talked to mental coaches and looped fellow specialists into the mix in an effort to improve this season.
“I’ve gained a lot of confidence in myself,” Thompson said. “My mental approach was kind of the main thing that I’ve worked on.” These efforts landed him as team captain and provided him the oppprtunity to be there for fellow teammates who could get flustered in the hostile environment.
Since making his mark on college football in 2019, Aussie punter Riley Thompson has learned a lot.

Carlos Alcaraz shared his mental journey while in the US OPEN Thursday night, acknowledging that he was battling his own mind during the game.
"It was a fight against myself, in my mind, during the match," Alcaraz said. “Today I was playing against the opponent, and I was playing against myself, in my mind. A lot of emotions that I couldn't control."

Dr. Leydig has worked with athletes, dancers, and performers in all levels of competition. While earning his master’s and doctoral degrees at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), he served at NSU’s Sports Medicine Clinic working with elite athletes in the South Florida community as well as collegiate student-athletes. Dr. Leydig also conducted baseline neurocognitive testing and post-injury return-to-play protocol using the ImPACT concussion test for the Broward County Athletic Association.
During his graduate training at NSU, Dr. Leydig earned the position of head coach of the lacrosse team at Archbishop McCarthy High School. After four seasons coaching lacrosse, he was privileged to coach football and basketball in the Special Olympics of Florida.
Dr. Leydig completed his residency at the University of South Carolina’s Counseling and Human Development Center. Prior to his graduate training, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and graduated Cum Laude.
Currently, Dr. Leydig owns a private practice in South Florida and is honored to practice in his hometown. He welcomes the opportunity to train athletes, coaches, dancers, and performers to develop an elite mindset and achieve optimal performance. As a featured guest speaker on The Dance Docs Podcast, Dr. Leydig is able to assist even more athletes strengthen their mental health.
Dr. Leydig is a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and the American Psychological Association.
