Ruchi Amin, MD

Ruchi Amin, MD As a pediatric surgeon, I specialize in the treatment of pediatric general, abdominal and thoracic disorders. The best part of my job are my patients.

I have a special interest in minimally invasive surgical procedures with training in advanced laparoscopic and thoracoscopic techniques. I believe in providing the safest and best care to children of all ages by pairing evidence-based clinical practice, with the latest surgical techniques. I love that I get to be a part of keeping them happy, healthy, and thriving. As a mom of two young children myself, I know how devastating it can be when your child is unwell. My goal is to make these difficult moments as manageable as possible by providing comfort, compassion, and clinical expertise. My patients benefit from clear and concise communication, as well as an excellent working relationship with other providers to deliver exceptional multidisciplinary care. In additional to General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery, I have also completed dedicated training with board certification in Pediatric Surgical Critical Care. This allows me a unique perspective in the management of the most critically ill children, as well as expertise in providing surgical care in the NICU, PICU, and emergency trauma settings. I’ve had the honor of being chosen as the inaugural recipient of the Donald Cherr, MD and Charles Schen, MD Exemplary Patient Care Award, as well being a past recipient of the Jameson L. Chassin, MD, FACS Award from the American College of Surgeons. This prestigious award is given in recognition for compassion, technical skill, and devotion to science and learning which I believe is essential to the practice of surgery. I know that you have a choice in who you trust to care for your child, and that for me is the greatest privilege of them all. I hope that if and when that time comes, you find comfort in knowing that your child will be in great hands and cared for as if they were my own.

Burnout doesn’t usually come from one big moment.  It comes from a thousand small ones that leave you just a little less whole. The difference between being eroded and being built in medicine often comes down to 1%.

In today’s article, I explore how repeated 99% experiences quietly deplete us, how 101% discomfort compounds into growth, and how to be more intentional about the environments, people, and challenges we choose to engage with.

In today’s article, I break down what tall poppy syndrome looks like in medicine, when it can actually help you grow, and how to stop it from shrinking your career.

Medicine teaches us to speak up, but it rarely teaches us when silence is the stronger move. Real wisdom isn’t standing up all the time or sitting back completely; it’s knowing which moments actually matter. The clinicians who last aren’t the loudest in the room…they’re the most intentional.

In today’s article, I explore the art of knowing when to stand up, when to sit down, and how this balance shapes your growth, credibility, and longevity in medicine.

Confidence in medicine isn’t about knowing everything.  It’s about trusting that you’ll figure it out. It’s built by handling hard cases, gaining new skills, and getting comfortable with uncertainty instead of avoiding it. When you shift your focus from outcomes to experience, every challenge becomes part of your training rather than a verdict on your ability. In today’s article, I break down how confidence is actually built in medicine, how to reframe new tasks and clinical challenges, and a practical framework to grow real, durable confidence—one rep at a time 🏋🏻‍♀️

Being underestimated was and still is my greatest superpower. No expectations. No pressure. No audience. Just room to build quietly and space to let the work speak for itself. You don’t have to start as the person who does big things. You become that person by doing the work first, delivering results, and letting your consistency rewrite the narrative. Start small. Overdeliver. Let your rise be undeniable.

If you’re a parent feeling overwhelmed by the updated Hepatits B vaccine schedule and unsure where to begin, you’re not alone. Here’s a list of some important questions you can ask to help cut through the noise, understand the real science, and make the most informed decision for your child and your family—so you can feel confident you’re doing everything you can to keep them safe and healthy.

But remember…the traditional birth-dose of hepatitis B remains the most effective, evidence-backed safeguard as Hepatitis B is often silent — and an early infection carries a 90% chance of lifelong chronic disease.

Curious what changed and what stayed the same in the new hepatitis B vaccine guidance for newborns?

The CDC just removed its decades-long universal birth-dose recommendation. Now, only babies with maternal risk factors are 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲  vaccinated at birth; for others, the decision is private and delayed until two months.

But here’s why that matters: without early vaccination, babies including those born to moms testing “negative” enter a window of vulnerability that can last months. Hepatitis B is often silent and an early infection carries a 90% chance of lifelong chronic disease.

Most applicants hope their rank list will “just feel right”—but sometimes the only way to be sure is to see a program in person.

Second looks can help you compare top programs, understand culture, and evaluate real training conditions that a Zoom interview will never reveal.

They don’t guarantee a ranking bump, but they can help you make a more confident, informed decision. And when you have geographic needs, fellowship goals, or lingering questions, that clarity is worth its weight.

Most people think fitness is about aesthetics but for physicians, it’s about performance and longevity.

One of the best predictors of both?
A simple 12-minute run.

Twelve minutes. Honest data. A roadmap for improving your health and how you show up at work.

In today’s article I break down what the Cooper Test is, how to do it, why it matters for physicians, and the exact changes you can make based on your results.

Most physicians spend decades mastering medicine and almost zero time mastering money.

A 401(k) can change that.

It’s the simplest, most powerful retirement tool we have: tax-advantaged, employer-matched, and built to grow while you’re busy taking care of everyone else. If you understand how it works, and why maximizing it matters, you can set yourself up for the kind of freedom most doctors don’t experience until far too late.

In this today’s article, I break down what a 401(k) is, how much you can contribute, why physicians should maximize it, and the long-term wealth impact you don’t want to miss.
