Here’s the simple version of an allergy reaction: an allergen like dust shows up, immune cells recognize it, link up to it, and then set off an “explosion” of inflammatory chemicals like histamine. That’s what causes itchiness, mucus, and all the miserable symptoms. Immunotherapy works by helping your body make “blocking antibodies” so those links cannot connect as easily. No link up means less reaction. Exposure is controlled and can be delivered under the skin, under the tongue, or through the mouth lining.

Sinus inflammation can be viral or bacterial. Viral infections do not need antibiotics. If symptoms are dragging on and not improving, your doctor may consider whether it has turned bacterial. If you are past a week and worsening or not improving, get checked.

Symptoms overlap: congestion, post nasal drip, headaches. A cold usually improves in about a week. If symptoms last longer and you add tooth pain or forehead pressure, it may be shifting toward a sinus infection. If you are unsure, get evaluated.

If you do not want daily meds long term, immunotherapy can be an option. The most common is allergy shots (SCIT). There are also under-the-tongue options like drops or FDA approved tablets for some allergens that can be taken at home with your doctor’s guidance.
