When Jim came to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center for radiation therapy, he found more than expert treatment. He also found compassion, kindness and professionalism that made all the difference.

Jim was so impressed by the care he received from Emily Vanderveeken, Christina Bradfield and Haleigh Thompson, three of our incredible radiation therapists, that he honored them through The Foundation of CVPH's Honor a Caregiver program.

This program gives patients and families a chance to recognize those who go above and beyond. Jim wanted everyone to know how much Emily, Christina and Haleigh meant to him during his cancer care. Their dedication and support inspired him to give back, helping others receive the same exceptional care.

We're so grateful for Jim's generosity and his decision to support our patients in their battle against cancer. And we're also thankful for Emily, Christina, Haleigh and everyone at our FitzPatrick Cancer Center who have an impact on so many lives in our community!

The Foundation of CVPH is hosting our annual Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony this Saturday, December 6 at 4 p.m. at the Circle of Healing & Hope on the front lawn of the hospital.

This ceremony offers a gentle space to remember and honor loved ones. We will also take time to reflect on and celebrate the memory of CVPH employees and volunteers who have recently passed.

The ceremony is open to all and will be held outdoors — please dress warmly.

Another grateful recipient shares, in her own words, how much knitted knockers meant to her during her cancer journey. 🩷🫶💕🎀

My breast surgeon showed me a pair at my first appointment, that I learned I had breast cancer. I had so many treatments - chemo - double mastectomy - radiation - continued herceptin infusions - detached retina - cataract surgery.......

Knitted Knockers made a huge difference for me, in both my physical and mental health as I go through my cancer journey, and were a plus with sooooo many other negatives and issues! Knitted knockers...helped me breathe easier, having something on my chest. I had a double mastectomy, and it was so tight and felt very hard to breathe. Wearing the knitted knockers also helped me feel "normal," so mentally, a huge plus that I was not expecting. I stuffed them into a pocketed cami and was shocked that I looked back to normal.

And to potential volunteers, she adds, "These are a lifesaver for so many, if you can benefit or support others to help them be aware of these as a tool for healing, please consider it." 🩷 P.P.

Off to the post office! 🩷Every week, we mail out thousands of free knitted knockers. In addition to orders we fill for individual recipients, we also send stuffed knockers to medical clinics across the country, and unstuffed knockers to support our providers filling orders for their states and adopted clinics. We could not do this without our caring volunteers who hand knit and crochet these wonderful gifts of comfort and dignity.
