As you head into the weekend… there’s one thing you’ll regret skipping: supporting us at the Lake City’s Grilled Cheese Contest.

We’re incredibly grateful to our friends at Love, Peace, and Grilled Cheese who have brought this event to life for the second year in a row. All week long, local restaurants have been serving up their own grilled‑cheese creations as part of the competition—donating $1 per sandwich to NAMI.

And now, it all comes down to the final round.

We are incredibly proud of the work that went into launching our county’s first-ever Warming Center. With only minimal bumps along the way, we created countless opportunities to support people, offer warmth, and build trust with individuals who needed it most.

This season reinforced something we already knew but witnessed firsthand every day: even temporary housing — even a single warm, safe place to land — can change the trajectory for someone struggling with their mental health.

Access to stable, quality housing is su***de prevention.

And this effort proved just how much a community can accomplish when it chooses compassion.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring our County’s first Warming Center to life. From the Clinton County Department of Social Services, Evergreen Town House Community, NAMI Champlain Valley, and MHAB Properties, to the Plattsburgh Police Department who collected items on our behalf — your partnership made all the difference.

Thank you to the service groups who donated essentials for individuals in need, to Elmore SPCA for stepping in during pet-related challenges, and to St. Joseph’s Outreach and Trinity Church for providing Community Meals. And to the countless community members who donated meals, supplies, and small comforts that offered a sense of normalcy during what may have been the hardest moments of someone’s life — your compassion mattered.

You made this possible. You made it successful.

Thanks to our friend David... and all of the restaurants who agree to participate... itsssssss back!

This one isn’t easy to share.

Unfortunately, we weren’t selected by the landlord for the space, which means we won’t be moving forward with our ramen concept. We were truly excited about what “Love, Peace, and Noodles” could become, and it’s disappointing knowing we won’t get the chance to bring that same level of care, creativity, and intention to a new space the way we had envisioned.

That said, we’re incredibly grateful—for the encouragement, the conversations, and the belief so many of you showed in us. It never goes unnoticed, and it’s a big part of what’s pushed us forward.

This summer will mark a transition for us. We’ll be stepping away from the North Country as we begin pursuing a larger mission in Philadelphia. It’s a move driven by growth, purpose, and the opportunity to expand what “Love, Peace, and Food” can be at a bigger scale.

Before we go, we’ll be showing up locally for just three events. The first will be May 25th, where we’ll be hosting the finale of the 2nd Annual Lake City Grilled Cheese Competition.

Stay tuned—details for this year’s competition will be coming out later this week, and once again we’ll be raising money for NAMI.

To everyone who’s supported us along the way—thank you. We’ll make sure to finish this chapter the right way.

Champlain Valley Family Center (CVFC) is a private, non-profit community-based organization. We are dedicated to providing behavioral health treatment, prevention, education and related support program.

We are looking to gauge interest from family members who may benefit from joining a supportive space designed just for them. Caring for a loved one who is impacted by mental illness can be deeply meaningful, but it can also be emotionally and physically challenging.
Our goal is to create a group that helps family members take care of themselves, build connections with others who understand their journey, and feel supported while continuing to love and care for their loved one.
