The Sweethearts & Heroes team recently updated The Foundation of CVPH Board to share the incredible impact their HOPE and STEP programs are having in local schools.

Founder Tom Murphy, along with educators and students from Peru Central and Chazy Central, spoke about the real change they’ve seen, felt, and helped create through this work — fostering empathy, connection, and resilience among students.

We’re proud to sponsor programs like Sweethearts & Heroes that empower young people with tools to support one another and build stronger, kinder communities. 💚

The Foundation of CVPH is hosting our annual Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday, December 6 at 4 p.m. at the Circle of Healing & Hope on the front lawn of the hospital.

In keeping with traditions observed by Angel of Hope communities across the country, this ceremony offers a gentle space to remember and honor loved ones. We will also take time to reflect on and celebrate the memory of CVPH employees and volunteers who have recently passed.

The ceremony is open to all and will be held outdoors — please dress warmly.

To submit a name to be read during the ceremony:
📧 msenecal@cvph.org
📱 (518) 314-3359

Please submit names by December 4 at 4 p.m.
We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful moment of remembrance and light. 💚

Your generosity helps save lives. Thanks to donor support, Lucas Devices were provided to assist our teams during CPR — ensuring continuous, high-quality chest compressions when every second counts.

This technology gives our caregivers the tools they need to act fast, reduce fatigue, and improve patient outcomes in critical moments.

Watch the video to see how your donations truly make a difference in emergency care right here in our community.

The Power of Giving

Every donation to The Foundation of CVPH helps change lives — not just within our hospital walls, but across the entire North Country community.

Thanks to your generosity and support through Foundation events, we’ve been able to:
- Upgrade equipment in our Emergency Room and Surgery Departments to improve patient care and outcomes.
- Empower thousands of local students through the Sweethearts & Heroes program to lead with empathy and hope.
- Deliver free tennis and pickleball camps for children through local partnerships.
- Help patients afford travel for specialized medical care outside the region.
- Add diverse CPR and first aid mannequins that reflect the people we serve.
- Offset transportation costs for cancer patients traveling to CVPH for treatment.
- Provide new beds, safety bedding, and murals for our Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit.
- Purchase cardiac rehab equipment like an exercise stress bike for those unable to use a treadmill.
- Supply our Family Birthing Center with updated fetal monitors, infant monitors, and cribs.

Each act of giving, big or small, has made a lasting impact on patients, families, and neighbors throughout our community. Together, we’re building a healthier, more compassionate future. 💚

With gratitude and respect, we recognize the brave men and women who have served our country — those who have sacrificed, protected, and dedicated themselves to something greater than themselves.

At The Foundation, we’re proud to stand alongside our veterans, patients, families, and team members who have worn the uniform. Your courage and commitment inspire us every day. 💙

Thank you for your service.

A big thank you to Owen, along with his parents Kelsey and Logan, for their incredible generosity in donating 107 LEGO sets to The Foundation!

With help from Amanda Rosselli from Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, some of these LEGO sets were shared with kids on that unit, and the rest were added to our Kids Closet to brighten hospital stays for future patients.

Because of thoughtful gestures like this, our youngest patients can find comfort, creativity, and a little extra joy during their time at CVPH! 💚

These grants help turn great ideas into real improvements — supporting our teams, patients, and community in meaningful ways.

Travel Funds: Helping Patients Get the Care They Need

Each of our travel funds was created with a unique story and purpose — all with the same goal: helping patients and families in our region access specialized medical care when travel is required.

💚 April LaValley Fund
Supports patients with cystic fibrosis who must travel for care. April, lovingly known as an “angel” in the North Country, wished to help others facing the same illness.

💚 CVPH Travel Fund
Established in 2001 by The Foundation Board of Directors, this fund assists adults who need out-of-area specialized medical care.

💚 Melissa Lahtinen Penfield Fund
Created by WIRY and the Lahtinen and Penfield families, this fund helps organ transplant recipients and donors — honoring Melissa’s legacy of compassion and strength.

💚 Roger Senecal Fund
Supports income-eligible families with ill children who must travel for treatment. The community’s outpouring of support for Roger as a young boy in the 1980s continues to make a difference today.

These funds represent the heart of our community — neighbors helping neighbors during life’s most challenging moments.

Please join us in celebrating Piper Martin, Clinical Assistant, who was recently recognized as a Health Care Herocthrough our Honor a Caregiver program.

A grateful family made a donation to The Foundation of CVPH in Piper’s honor for the compassionate care she provided. Linda Moore shared: “My family and I are exceptionally grateful for the care you gave my husband, Gary.”

When presented with her pin, Piper was reminded:
“Caring for our patients and their families takes skill and compassion. You rise to meet that challenge, and your dedication is noticed and appreciated… Thank you for upholding the standard of care that our friends and neighbors rely on.”

Congratulations, Piper! Your compassion and dedication make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and families every day. 💚
