The Avocet Event Center was filled with music all weekend long! 🎹

We were treated to a full recital from the students of Music Teach LA, bringing a wave of young talent right to our stage. It was a special opportunity for our residents to sit back and support the next generation of musicians.

The group put on a wonderful show, and the applause from the crowd made it clear just how much we enjoyed the performance!

The holiday shopping season is officially underway! Avocet Playa Vista residents visited the annual Temple Beth Am holiday market boutique to hunt for unique gifts and specialties. The group fully embraced the "shop till you drop" mentality and filled their bags with one-of-a-kind finds. 🛍️

Story time at the Mar Vista Family Center just gained a few new narrators! 📚

A fresh group of Avocet residents volunteered their time to read to the students as part of our ongoing intergenerational program with the school. It is designed to be reciprocal, so both the children and our residents can learn from one another!

Japanese interval walking is a specific practice for building endurance, and our group takes it seriously. One of our residents, at 91, is living proof that stamina is about consistency, not age. She is right there in the mix every weekend, keeping up with the intervals and the group.

This year, our gratitude is full of life and local culture.

Avocet embraced the energy of the city in a big way in 2025. We cheered loud for the Los Angeles Dodgers all season and found new inspiration while browsing the Renegade Craft Fair. We also kept our commitment to wellness strong with countless workout sessions and by joining the SRG Senior Living company-wide wellness challenges with plenty of enthusiasm.

But we balanced that activity with meaningful connection. We honored rich traditions during Día de Los Mu***os and Veterans Day while sharing a warm meal at our own Friendsgiving celebration. It has been a year defined by good health, great friends, and a vibrant community spirit.

Avocet's residents brought their own flair to “An Evening in Nepal” with pieces of Nepalese jewelry and even handmade scarves fashioned from Tibetan prayer flags! The dining room carried the beauty of the theme as everyone sampled dishes like sticky rice pudding and compared interpretations around the table.

Later that night, our group settled into the Avocet theater for a screening of the Academy Award–nominated documentary "Himalaya," a quiet close to a culturally rich evening that sparked plenty of conversation on the way out. 🍚🎥✨
