“When my kids were little I had a very large workout video collection. I would get up and workout early morning before the kids were up. I also would run with a group of friends weekly. We trained for a few half and full marathons together. Then I moved away from my friends.

Working out alone was lonely when I didn’t have other social activities because I had left my friends behind. My husband got a free gym membership to the local rec center (shoutout to Orem Rec). It turns out I loved working out at the gym! I love the friends you can make and the built-in support system for making healthy choices.

Every morning I enjoyed getting up and going to 1 or 2 classes at the gym. I was starting to consider becoming an instructor because I enjoyed it so much. Then we moved away from the gym and back to Washington. I was back with my friends, but I missed the gym. A gym membership in Washington was so expensive, I decided that becoming an instructor was a good way around that expense. 😊…So I have been teaching spinning classes for 17 years!

I decided that if I was going to teach an indoor cycling class, I should ride outdoors too; so I did! Then we moved to Utah and I signed up for RAGBRAI and started riding my bike outside regularly. Turns out I love it!

Now, I not only teach indoor cycling, but also a strength format. (Find Cara at PGREC)

💪Being active is an important part of my identity. A part that I hope to maintain long term.”

Cara helped lead out our MoreEnergy Netherland’s and Belgium bike tour in May of this year.

She is regularly participating in 100-200 mile bike rides. Pictured here is a group that cycled 200 miles from Portland to Seattle in 2 days.

Cara is a beautiful example of a woman who has fully embraced fitness as a tool to experience life to its fullest!

We will be highlighting more of her active adventures in future posts. We love what she brings to our women’s community!

We each feel deeply motivated to move our bodies and stay active the older we get. Some of us find ourselves on the golf course more often in this stage of life. Working on new skills that allow us greater opportunities to move in different ways is part of a fitness lifestyle!

Yes—you can build muscle and lose fat at the same time. 💪🔥 But for many women, real results come when you commit to one goal at a time for 3–6 months:
➕ Build muscle with a slight surplus
➖ Lose fat with a strategic deficit
⚖️ Maintain while getting stronger

No matter the phase: resistance training is a non-negotiable. Always choose to fill your calories with high quality, whole foods!

Consistency is the master key. 🧠🔑

Coach Cara is as consistent as they come with daily movement and exercise. She loves cycling and has a very long streak of 10k step days! (We mean yearsssss 😮)

But! She also spends plenty of time outside of formal exercise doing things she loves with friends!

Embracing a fitness lifestyle can be part of your identity, but it doesn’t have to require all of your time. Life is meant to be balanced with work and play! However, even the “work” part can feel like play when you find physical activity you genuinely enjoy and have friends to do it with!

MoreEnergy is about helping you become the version of yourself you want to be! You don’t have to be a fitness fanatic, but you may want to just feel and look better and not hate the process ;)
