Julie Levin, MFT, Counseling to build strength, courage and resilience Therapy and coaching for midlife growth. If you're like most people, you've internalized beliefs about yourself and the world through family and culture.

Some of these may be negative, causing shame, guilt, anxiety or anger. Trying to manage these feelings may lead you to behaviors you don't want: avoidance, overeating, overworking, (or some other soothing-distracting activity). Anxiety and shame are also at the root of most relationship problems. It's hard to feel loving when you're feeling bad about yourself, worried or stressed out. But there is

also a natural resilience in you, a tendency toward goodness, safety, strength and love. I love helping people tap back into this resilience, nurturing and growing feelings of empowerment, self-protection and aliveness. From this place of strength, we can gently unravel the emotional injuries and traumas that have made you feel stuck. In the process you can reclaim your aliveness and live "wholeheartedly" to quote Brene Brown.

While a blog post can't teach you how to love yourself so you actually feel loved, this one does a great job explaining WHY self-love matters so much. I've built my entire practice on teaching clients how to love themselves because I believe this in my bones.

There was a guy I knew in university. He was always in good spirits and made the most of any situation thrown at him. In all the time I…

Clients find the advice about social connection and longevity/health confusing at times. Are all relationships good for health? NO. This article, offering insights from a Harvard happiness researcher, advises that we take time to notice how relationships leave us feeling - energized or depleted. Keep friends that leave you feeling energized. Let go of the ones that deplete you. He points out that ambivalent relationships - sometimes supportive, sometimes demeaning - are the most toxic. If you know someone who needs help letting go of a toxic relationship, please share this or give them my contact info. I love helping people set boundaries.
