We don’t leave our pasts at the door when we enter a relationship. ✨

In relational therapy, we often find that current conflict is fueled by past individual trauma. When an old wound is triggered, we don’t react to our partner or family member in the present; we react from that safe, protective place we built years ago.

True relational wellness involves understanding how individual histories impact the shared dynamic. We help you and your loved ones:

1️⃣ Identify trauma triggers within the relationship.
2️⃣ Differentiate between past pain and present interactions.
3️⃣ Build compassion for each other’s unique healing journeys.

By honoring individual experiences, we can co-create a relationship grounded in emotional safety and profound understanding.

Meet Madi: Compassionate & Affordable Therapy for You and Your Loved One 🌿

Are you feeling stuck in constant conflict with your partner, overwhelmed by parenting challenges, or noticing a growing distance within your family?

You’re not alone—and support shouldn’t be out of reach.

My name is Madison Gluck, and I’m a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee at Oak Creek Relational Counseling Center. I believe everyone deserves access to high-quality care, which is why I offer flexible pricing options to fit your budget.

💡 Why Work With Me?

If cost has been a barrier to your healing, let’s talk. I provide:
• Pro bono (free) sessions
• $30 low-fee sessions
• Sliding scale options based on your needs

🤝 My Areas of Expertise

I specialize in helping individuals, couples, and families navigate the "tough stuff." Whether you are in Pleasant Hill, CA (in-person) or anywhere in California (online), I am here to help you with:
• Couples: Moving out of conflict cycles and rebuilding deep connection.
• Parents: Managing child/teen behavior while reducing household tension.
• Families: Improving communication and healing disconnection.
• Individuals: Navigating anxiety, stress, trauma, and life transitions.

✨ My Approach: Connection-First

I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help you understand the "why" behind your emotions. My goal is to help you slow things down, break negative patterns, and create a secure, supportive environment where everyone feels heard.

Setting boundaries isn’t about building walls; it’s about drawing a clear map of how we can love ourselves and others simultaneously. 🗺️💙
In relational therapy, we define boundaries as the necessary parameters for a safe, respectful connection. A healthy boundary might sound like:
🚫 “I cannot discuss work after 7:00 PM.”
🚫 “I am not comfortable being spoken to in that tone.”
🚫 “I need quiet time to recharge before we talk about our day.”
Protecting your peace is an essential step toward protecting your relationships. Learn how to define and communicate your needs clearly.

"Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation." — bell hooks ✨

Today, we are taking a moment to highlight one of our dedicated therapy team members at Oak Creek Relational Counseling Center: Sara Diaz (She/Her), Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee!

Sara brings a deeply compassionate and unique perspective to her clinical work. While completing her graduate studies at Alliant International University, she has spent nearly a decade in a defining role as a teacher. During those years in the classroom, she witnessed firsthand the profound impact that care, connection, and safe relationships can have on a person’s ability to truly thrive.

This experience continues to shape the way she shows up as a therapist. Sara’s goal is to meet you exactly where you are—no judgments, just unwavering support. She believes in offering a safe space to explore both the stories that have shaped you and the new ones you are ready to write.

Sara walks alongside her clients—individuals, couples, and families—with warmth, curiosity, and deep respect for their unique healing journeys.

It is an honor to have her as part of our Oak Creek community!

🌱 Ready to connect? Sara is currently accepting new clients in Pleasant Hill, CA.

Sara Diaz is a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee supervised by Stephen Polin, LMFT #7861.

Is condescension the new gaslighting?

Not the intentional kind — but when one partner consistently explains, corrects, or dismisses the other's experience, the effect can feel surprisingly similar.

The person on the receiving end starts doubting their own perceptions. Stops sharing. Pulls away.It doesn't usually come from a bad place.

Often it comes from anxiety, or a learned role of "being the capable one." But over time, reducing your partner to someone you've already figured out quietly erodes the intimacy you're both trying to protect.

We wrote about this pattern — what it looks like, why it develops, and what it actually takes to break it.

How many arguments in your relationship start because you are listening to reply, rather than listening to understand? 🔄

Miscommunication is one of the most common challenges couples face. We get so focused on defending our position or planning our next point that we miss the emotional core of what our partner is trying to say. This creates cycles of frustration where both people feel unheard.

In relational therapy, we practice active listening:
1️⃣ Suspending judgement.
2️⃣ Focusing entirely on the speaker.
3️⃣ Validating their perspective (even if you don't agree).

Breaking these communication habits takes practice, but it changes everything. Let us help you shift from conflict to connection.

"I thought I'd feel happy about this change, but I feel stuck." 📍

Transitions come with grief—even the ones we choose. Letting go is hard, even when moving forward is right.

Therapy helps you process the loss and move forward with intention.

You don't have to do this alone.

Trauma shows up in unexpected ways. 🤍

Difficulty trusting. Unhealthy patterns. Self-criticism. Disconnection from your needs.

It doesn't always look like what we think it does.

But if parts of your past feel unresolved, therapy can help you integrate those experiences and move forward differently.

You deserve that freedom.

What helped you survive then might be holding you back now. 💪

Your resilience is real. And sometimes, the survival strategies that once protected you are no longer serving you.

Therapy isn't about blame. It's about understanding so you can choose how your past shapes your future.

Let's talk.

Conflict doesn't mean it's over. ✨

It means there's something to understand.

In couples therapy, we help partners move from fighting *about* the issue to understanding *why* it matters.

That shift? It changes everything—how you argue, listen, and feel together.
