All about the fascia
Let's Talk Fascia, an often overlooked, but important, soft tissue of the body.
Fascia is a body-wide system of connective tissue that acts as a supportive and protective sheath for muscles, organs, nerves, and blood vessels. It is made primarily of collagen and is essential for holding structures in place, providing shape, reducing friction, and transmitting sensory information. Because it contains a high number of sensory nerves, it plays a significant role in the body's sense of position, movement, and pain.
A fascia massage, or myofascial release, relieves tension in the body's connective tissue to increase flexibility, reduce pain, and improve movement by applying sustained, gentle pressure. By loosening tightness in the fascia, it can break up adhesions and scar tissue, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. This can help alleviate chronic pain in areas like the neck and back, improve posture, and support tissue recovery after an injury.
