Skin needs hydration to function properly.💦
Skin contains enzymes which have many important jobs in the skin & all of these enzymes require water to function.
Clogged pores are a result of insufficient water in the skin, especially topically.
Water is the FUEL of enzymes.⛽
Enzyme function is just one of MANY bodily functions that require water. Enzymes can only tolerate a reduction of around 13% in the free water within the stratum corneum.
Don't believe these online people telling you that you don't need to drink water, you do! It takes 50 oz of water daily just to maintain basic internal functions! 💧
How do you retain that water in & on the skin? Remember, skin is a two-sided organ, it needs to be nurtured from both the inside & the outside. The way to hold water in & on the skin is with fat/oil, or sebum, internally & topically.
•Internally you must drink water & eat fat. Not just unsaturated oils, but also saturated fats. Animal fats contain sphingolipids, which gives you ceramides. Eat more chicken skin & butter for skin health!
Meat, fish, & egg yolks contain everything you need for barrier repair. They give you ceramides, cholesterol, & fatty acids which are the skin barrier lipids.
•Topically, you need to apply hydrating toners or serums, & lock them in with emollient serums & moisturizers that contain some or all of the skin barrier lipids.
Always remember that oil sits on top of water! Remember the pic from this post! 👍
