Today is Rare Disease Day—a day to amplify voices, increase awareness, and advocate for those living with rare conditions like lymphedema and lymphatic disorders.

Lymphedema, while often misunderstood, affects millions worldwide, including those with primary lymphedema, a rare genetic condition present from birth or developing later in life. For many, access to proper treatment, early diagnosis, and ongoing support remains a challenge.

At the National Lymphedema Network, we are committed to education, advocacy, and improving care for those affected by lymphatic diseases. Today, we stand in solidarity with the rare disease community, pushing for greater awareness, research, and resources.

💙 How can you help?
✔ Learn more about lymphedema and share this post

They Wanted To Share Their Story So Others Can Find Healing Too.
A cancer survivor was experiencing infections in her arm for two years. After only 4 months of treatment here at R+R with Leah for Lymphatic Therapy and Wellness Coaching, her Dr reports significantly less risk of infection spreading. Her oncologist recommended lymphatic therapy with a trained lymphedema therapist.
We can call this treatment a massage so people understand that this will be a relaxing experience. Cancer survivors need relaxing experiences to heal. Although manual lymphatic drainage treatment seems like it’s a massage, it is actually sequences of manual movements directly stimulating the reduction of swelling and a treatment plan which may include CDT or properly fitted compression garments.
The therapy feels like massage, however it really is an advanced technique. Theres a HUGE difference between a massage that a massage therapist provides and that of lymphatic therapy from a Lymphedema Therapist.
