Kudos to Paramedic Corporal Mark A. Plumley for his off-duty actions in responding to a cardiac arrest on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. Corporal Plumley was on his way home from his day shift when he received emergency notification on his PulsePoint Foundation app alerting him to someone in cardiac arrest at a local athletic club. The feedback from the bystanders on scene stated Mark “quickly took control of the scene”. They further stated his “initiative and willingness to assist were evident from the moment he arrived at the patient’s side”.
Despite being off duty, he was quick to act and assisted with resuscitative measures. Corporal Plumley was also noted to stay behind and speak with the bystanders regarding the resuscitation. He assured everyone they acted appropriately, and the facility’s use of their Automated External Defibrillator (AED) had a significant impact on the resuscitation and restoration of the patient’s pulses. The patient’s condition was noted to improve throughout the patient contact due to the combined efforts of bystanders, Corporal Plumley, Hockessin Fire Company, Mill Creek Fire Company, and New Castle County Paramedics.
Corporal Plumley is commended for his willingness to respond to a critical medical emergency while off duty. Thanks for making a difference and impact during this event.
