It’ll warm up eventually! Remember one way to keep training fun is to train for a specific goal. I am not a good surfer but it’s a fun way to check in with my hips after doing a lot of other movements these last few winter months.

Just because push-ups are a common exercise does not mean they are easy. Getting your first full push up in is a strength accomplishment! The key to building into the movement is finding positions that are doable and not scary. I notice with a lot of people the fear of falling on the ground is a big reason why they stay away from the movement.

In qi gong, Qi is described as the life force energy in everything. A common metaphor is a bowl of recently cooked rice. Qi is the rice, the bowl, and steam above. A lot of exercises meant to wake up the qi help loosen the muscles and improve circulation while promoting relaxation of the mind. As a result, I often like to describe the feeling of moving your qi as extreme body awareness. It usually starts out as tingling in your hands or heat across your body and gets more specific from there!

A great movement! This is one where you really want to focus on what you feel rather than what it looks like. Feel your glutes, upper back, chest, and abdominal muscles? Awesome! As a yoga teacher, people assume I love being upside down. I don’t it’s never something that’s felt comfortable for me but recently after a lot of balance training I wanted to try and get better at this position. So I chose a variation that feels challenging but stable and safe. Somewhere I can breathe because remember if you are holding your breath during a movement you aren’t in a place to learn and grow you are just waiting for it to be over!
