Reading can be fun!
In our sessions we work on primarily reading and writing. Can you keep a secret?🤫

I incorporate our writing goals into the games and the kids don’t even know! 😃

I was working on beginning blends with the CL rule in our session yesterday, and my friend CRUSHED it! He found those yellow sticks on the ground, so we incorporated it into our lesson!
1. I gave him a word to write
2. I showed him a word list (targets reading) and then he gave me a word to write
3. We alternated and played tic tac toe once the spaces were filled!

Do you accept insurance?

In home therapy has proven to be more beneficial than outpatient therapy services for most individuals. The progress is faster, and being in a patients home environment is the most functional setting possible.

We have made the choice as a private pay practice to ensure we have individualized treatment plans that benefit the patient vs. trying to write goals to meet insurance criteria.

Home bound status: If you do qualify for home health services, you most likely will receive therapy 1 time a week for maximum 4-5 weeks and be cut off if there is not progress being made. They have unrealistic standards and definitions of “progress.”

🚨 Reading tip! 🚨

The foundation and starting point for learning to read are the short vowels (see the second picture)!

Imagine a high stress situation where you are consistently making mistakes. How frustrating! We need to teach kids (that have difficulties reading) that reading is fun! We create an environment of teamwork! When I have kiddos, we alternate words. I ensure that the kids feel successful and by the end of the book, they should feel encouraged!

📚 The average age of my Orton students are 6-8! Literacy (the ability to read and write) starts at a young age. Anybody watch Cocomelon? Can your child sing along to every word ? This is early literacy! Have further questions? Shoot me a DM! 📚

Mealtimes don’t have to be difficult! You’re not a bad parent if your child is difficult with what they eat! There is therapy for this…. Often my families will report their kiddo will only eat XYZ and will pull a Real Housewives table flipping episode if there is a new or non- preferred food placed in front of them. ⭐️ FUN FACT OF THE WEEK ⭐️ I have seen a mug/meme online for speech pathologists that say, “keep talking I’m diagnosing you.” Unfortunately for me… this is very true. It’s like road kill. Once you see/hear it, you can’t ignore it. Here are some facts about the famous individuals listed in the post:

Joe Biden: Joe has opened up about his childhood stutter. He never received official therapy , but the nuns assisted in helping him with fluent speech via poetry.

Ed Sheeran: Ed made an appearance at The American Stuttering Institute gala. He reports he was teased as a little kid for his stutter.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever told someone to slow down 🤚🏼 We call that “overstuffing” in the speech world. Both adults and children are guilty of doing this! Here are some fun speech therapy terms you’ll commonly hear during Dysphagia (swallowing) or feeding therapy with us!
- Masticate = Chew everything up!
- Aspiration: 🚨 IT WENT DOWN THE WRONG TUBE 🚨
- Oral phase: In the mouth 👄
- Propel: Move that food around
- Dentation: How many teeth do they have ? 🦷
FUN FACT - Jill will give her dogs a treat and then gently provide a tactile cue to not tip their heads back 🤣😃
