Yoga is about connecting with your body, feeling what it’s telling you and giving yourself permission to listen to it. I hope you leave my classes feeling relaxed, recharged and reconnected with your True North. True North Yoga serves the western suburbs of Minneapolis and offers customized class offerings for all experience levels. Yoga for You:

My favorite part of yoga class? The 5 minute Power Nap during the final resting pose. It is such a great way to surrender and give your mind+body+spirit the rest and reset that it needs.

The poses in class leading up to this are preparing you for this most important segment of the class when you activate your parasympathetic nervous system.

When you rise after resting, you feel relaxed, refreshed and re-energized.

Did you know that 7 out of 10 people are currently living in a chronic state of stress?

For many years, I was one of them.

Stress is one of those things that can have a bigger impact on you than you realize.
It can make it hard to focus, hard to feel happy and hard to take care of yourself. It can also cause you to doubt yourself, procrastinate, burn out, doom scroll and struggle with comparison. It took me a long time to get my stress under control and now that I'm on the other side, I can say that without a doubt it did have a much bigger impact on me that I realized.

Yoga, meditation and Reiki are great tools to help get stress under control. These are the things that helped me overcome my chronic stress and I feel lucky to be able to help others get to the other side of their stress too.

Meditation is a really great way to reduce stress. I know it can sound intimidating, but it really is easy. 5 minutes is all you need - maybe in the morning, during the after lunch slump or right before bed.

Lay down and let yourself relax. Focus your attention on your breath. Breathe in through you nose and out through your mouth. Set a timer and see if you can do this for 5 minutes.

Cat Pose is another great stretch for the spine. Rounding through the back creates a lovely stretch between shoulder blades where many of us tend to hold tension and stress.

Give it a try:
- Start on hands and knees
- As you exhale, start to round your back.
- Gently tuck your chin toward your chest and draw your belly button up toward your spine.
- Breathe and press up into the stretch, holding as long as comfortable or alternating between Cat Pose and Cow Pose, moving with your breath. Inhale to Cow Pose and exhale to Cat Pose.

Mindfulness can help boost cognitive ability.

When you are stressed or overwhelmed, do you ever feel like your mind is racing at one hundred miles per minute? It's hard to focus on any one thing. It's hard to be creative. It's hard to think things through and create a plan. Your mind is just spinning but not actually getting anything done. This is where mindfulness can help.

Mindfulness helps to slow your brain down. In mindfulness, you typically choose a focus point and bring all of your attention to that one focus point. For me, it is typically my breath. Breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth. Feeling the sensation of the air as it passes through my lungs.

This practice of bringing our attention down to one thing helps us to reset our brain. It helps us slow down. It helps us get back on track. We can think clearer. We can make a plan. We can get creative.

The more you practice finding your focus point, the easier it gets to reset your brain. Sometimes your brain will even do it without you realizing. You learn how to focus more. You learn how to think clearer. You learn how to overcome distractions. You learn how to be at peace.

Cow Pose is a great stretch for the spine. Creating an arch through the back is an excellent way to counter our typical posture of rounding forward, especially is you sit a lot during the day or spend your days on your computer.

Give it a try:
- Start on hands and knees
- As you inhale, start to drop you belly down toward the floor.
- Gently gaze up toward the ceiling and pull shoulders back.
- Breathe and sink down into the stretch, holding as long as comfortable.
