Reiki is a type of healing touch therapy that works with life force energy in the body.

Multiple studies have shown that Reiki can be effective in reducing pain. A 2018 study completed by the National Institute of Health (NIH) reported that Reiki resulted in a statistically significant reduction in pain scores compared to a control group.

Puppy pose is amazing for stretching your mid-back. It’s also a great alternative for Child’s Pose if that one is too much for your knees.

Pro tip: pull your belly button up toward your spine to intensify the stretch.

Give it a try:
- Start on hands and knees.
- Walk your hands forward as far as you can reach.
- Lower your head between your arms letting your neck relax
- Slightly shift your hips back to lengthen your spine.
- Hold for 5-10 breaths.

The nights are getting longer and the days getting shorter.

This period of extending darkness will continue until the Winter Solstice in December.

As we experience this growing darkness, it is a great reminder to look for light and to create our own light.

Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique that utilizes the idea of channeling life force energy to the recipient to calm and balance their energy.

I tell people it’s like a really deep, calming meditation that incorporates the power of human touch.

After a few powerful experiences receiving Reiki, I got certified so I could give it to myself during recovery from cancer treatment.

Now I share Reiki with others and love seeing the impact of the sessions.

Our nervous systems get frazzled with the chaos of day to day life. Reset it with meditation.

Meditation doesn't have to take a long time. It could be just 5 minutes - maybe in the morning, maybe before bed or maybe at the end of your yoga class.

Wide leg side stretch feels so, so good for tight hamstrings and hips.

Pro tip: lift up through the crown of your head to keep your spine elongated as you stretch.

Give it a try:
- Sit comfortably with legs extended wide, you can keep a bend in your knees.
- Bring your right hand to your right thigh.
- Reach your left arm up and over reaching toward your right foot as you slide your right hand down your leg to find a comfortable side body stretch.
- Hold here 5-10 breaths or pulse into and out of the stretch.
- Repeat on the other side.

Yoga helps us to find inner peace when the world around us feels chaotic. It helps us find inner peace when our minds feel chaotic too.

Inner peace is a state of feeling calm and stable that is independent of what is going on around you. Sounds pretty good, right?

Yoga helps us find this inner peace by working with our body, not against it. In yoga, we practice:

✨ specific breath work techniques to help us calm down.

✨ linking body movement to our breath to bring our attention to something neutral.

✨bringing ourselves into the present moment and leaving outside distractions away.

✨staying calm when a pose gets hard.

✨focusing our attention on what we can control.

✨listening to our bodies so we can give it what it needs to feel good.

We practice all of this on our mats so that we may take it off of our mats to find inner peace anytime and anywhere.
