CALS Rural Emergency Medical Education

The goals of the CALS courses is to improve patient care by:
- Presenting an evidence-based educational experience in an advanced life support that encompasses all critical areas of emergency care.
- Developing a team approach to patient management
- Providing information and practice in a variety of instructional formats to allow for self-directed learning and to provide a balance of cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills
- Providing an information resource and rapid retrieval system with the use of algorithms and treatment plans
-Providing a means for updating and maintaining knowledge and skills of advanced life support providers
- Providing rural facilities with a list of critical equipment and resources for obtaining the equipment

CALS Objectives:
On completion of the CALS courses, the healthcare provider will be able to:
-Demonstrate the ability to problem-solve a variety of clinical situations
-Identify key threats and demonstrate therapeutic interventions
-Discuss roles of each team member involved in patient evaluation and treatment
- Perform skills consistent with the provider's role on the advanced life support team
