Communities for Alcohol- and Drug-Free Youth

Communities for Alcohol- and Drug-Free Youth To educate, engage and empower our communities to prevent youth alcohol, tobacco, and drug use.

Our vision is to have families, schools, and communities that are informed about the importance of prevention, that actively participate in prevention efforts, and who encourage low-risk behavior; and to have significantly higher numbers of healthy, drug-free young people who do the same.

How are you promoting positive childhood experiences (PCEs) in the classroom? Use the Four Building Blocks of HOPE to welcome your new students!

Start with a simple checklist that outlines your focus for each Building Block: Relationships, Environments, Engagement, and Emotional Growth.

Here's an example to get you started!

✔️ Relationships: Arrange desks in a way that promotes new friendships!
✔️ Environment: Decorate your classroom in a way that represents diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and genders.
✔️ Engagement: Explain all the available extracurricular activities offered at the school.
✔️ Emotional Growth: Create icebreaker activities that encourage students to come out of their shell.

Talk to your kids about the dangers of underage substance use and lead them down a path of positive choices. When you talk..they hear you.

SAMHSA’s national youth substance use prevention campaign, “Talk. They Hear You.”®, helps parents and caregivers, educators, and community members get informed, be prepared, and take action to prevent underage drinking and other substance use.
