We provide foster care and adoption services in Minnesota. We use innovative, personalized approaches to heal trauma, break cycles of harm, and reshape futures.

Our mission is to change the course of a child's life by stabilizing families and strengthening mental health. Nexus-Kindred Family Healing is part of Nexus Family Healing, a national nonprofit mental health organization with over 50 years of restoring hope for thousands of children, families, and adults each year through community mental health therapy, crisis and stabilization, foster care and adoption, and residential treatment. Back-to-school season is exciting… but let’s be honest, it can also bring a lot of anxiety—especially for kids.

Even with supplies ready, the “what-ifs” can creep in. "What if I fall behind?" "What if I don’t know anyone?"

As parents and caregivers, the best thing we can do is listen, validate their feelings, and help them make a plan for when things don’t go perfectly.

Every school year comes with challenges—but knowing someone is in their corner can make all the difference.

On Friday afternoon, our foster and adoptive families gathered at Lions Park in Shakopee for a day of good food and fun! Families enjoyed a delicious lunch from the Vikings Table Food Truck, sweet treats from JonnyPops, and refreshing drinks from Enterprise Fleet Management.

After plenty of chatting, laughter, and playtime, everyone headed over to Valleyfair to keep the fun going!

We are so grateful to our generous donors who made the day extra special—thank you to the Minnesota Vikings for donating LED Nite Lites, and to everyone who gifted toys, books, blankets, games, and more for our families. Your kindness helps create joyful memories and reminds our families they are surrounded by a community that cares.

Meet Ronald! He's a 15-year-old who describes himself as "a good person." A great afternoon for Ronald would include relaxing after school, listening to his favorite music, and eating a Big Mac. He loves all fun activities and is great at connecting with others!

Ronald wants a permanent family and remains hopeful that he'll be adopted. A strong family for Ronald will understand his abilities, advocate for and pursue services, and be supportive and inclusive of him throughout his life stages.

Nexus-Kindred’s Relative & Kin Support Services are for families who are caring for a relative’s child and need support and education. Families can also receive help with obtaining foster care licensing if they desire to continue fostering kin or other children.

The Kinship Navigator Program delivers essential support and linkages to relative and kin families to provide for the children in their home. Families will first work with a Kinship Navigator who will provide them with phone and in-person information, referral, and assessment on community services their family may need such as housing, childcare, food, health services and transportation. If additional assistance is required, a Case Manager will partner with families as they access services, including side-by-side assistance. Each month we highlight a child who is waiting for a home in MN. This month we are excited to introduce Desirae!

Desirae is a lovely young lady who is friendly, outgoing, polite, caring, considerate of others, funny, happy, and a joy to be around. She loves making art, taking pictures, photo shoots with friends, cooking meals and eating spicy foods, and being around horses and animals.

Nexus-Kindred Family Healing is the largest private foster care provider in the Minnesota, serving more than 262 youth daily. With foster homes located throughout the state and 11 offices, we cover a large geographic area to help children in need of foster care stay closer to home and transition back into their community. We support and care for children and families in difficult circumstances with a program mix that is progressive and responsive to those we serve.
