Dunstan Pediatric Services originated from the idea that all students with special education or developmental needs would have equal access to a therapy program offering specialized sensory motor equipment in a dedicated therapy space. Each therapist at DPS holds the same desire to provide the most effective neuromuscular therapy in an individualized program so that each student experiences just t

he right challenge under the guise of play. Children are offered activities that challenge their ability to succeed within a particular sensory motor area. When the degree of difficulty in a task matches the student’s skill they tend to believe in themselves and their ability. When they are challenged just slightly beyond their skill level they may create a change in their typical movement patterns knows as an adaptive response. With time and practice, the child develops and grows. The therapist brings them to the understanding that there are sensations created during movements that allow them to consistently create, plan and execute actions for success.
